After two years of following a bodybuilding-style training program, Annabelle decided to completely rethink the way she trains. She was pushing herself to failure, training individual muscles, and working as hard as she could in every session. She was also getting injured every few months and started questioning whether this was actually a sustainable way to train for the long term. So she switched to a strength-focused program designed by Marcus, and in this episode, Annabelle and Marcus talk about what changed, how it feels, and why doing less doesn't necessarily mean getting less out of your workouts. They also dive into the science behind strength training and what actually makes a training program effective. Sometimes, the environment I’m in simply doesn’t support the person I’m trying to become. In this video, I share my experience as a working guitar player in my 20s. From the outside, I was living the dream. But the reality of my day-to-day life was completely at odds with what I needed to feel healthy and happy. Leaving that career was scary. It meant starting over at an age when many of my friends already had established careers, families, and a clear path forward. But staying somewhere that wasn’t working for me wasn’t the answer either. Whether it’s your career, relationships, routines, or the people you surround yourself with, sometimes the environment you’re in can make it incredibly difficult to create the changes you want. That doesn’t necessarily mean you need to blow up your life. But it might be worth asking yourself: Is my current environment actually helping me become the person I want to be? And if it isn’t, what options do I have? In this video, we're talking about why it's so hard to change our relationship with food and body image, even when we genuinely want to. Even when we know our current habits aren't serving us anymore. Even when we want something better for ourselves. We share stories from our own journeys, the obstacles that kept us stuck, and the mindset shifts and realizations that helped us change our relationship with food and our bodies. If you've ever felt frustrated because you know what you "should" do but still struggle to do it, we hope this episode gives you a new perspective, reminds you that you're probably doing better than you think you are, and encourages you to keep going on your own journey to achieve freedom in your relationship with food. Oftentimes, the reason we feel stuck in improving our relationship with food and our body isn't because we're not making progress. It's because we're looking for progress in the wrong place. Many of us have been conditioned to believe that progress means seeing fast results, feeling motivated all the time, always knowing exactly what to do, and staying perfectly on track with our eating and training. But I'd like to invite you to look for a different kind of progress. Because, in my experience, the progress that truly leads to a healthier relationship with food and your body is often much quieter. It's found in the small mindset shifts, the moments of self-compassion, and the little changes that don't always feel dramatic but lead to those moments when you stop and think, "Wow, I handled that so well." In this video, I'm sharing what that kind of progress looks like and how learning to recognize it can completely change the way you see your journey. In this episode, we'll talk about how to build confidence without changing your body or your face. For years, I struggled with social anxiety, low self-esteem and body image issues. I believed that if I could just lose enough weight or look different, I would finally feel confident and accepted. But even when my body changed, the insecurity never went away. In this episode, I share the mindset shifts that helped me break free from body obsession and finally feel secure in who I am. We'll talk about: Why getting clear on the life you actually want is more important than simply "wanting to become confident." How curiosity can replace self-judgment. The impact the people around you and your social media feed have on your confidence. How I stopped analyzing myself in the mirror. How wearing clothes that actually fit changed the way I felt about myself. The beliefs I let go of—and the new ones I chose to adopt instead. If you've ever struggled with body image, social anxiety, low self-esteem, or feeling like your worth depends on how you look, I hope this video reminds you that you are so much more than just your body. After 15 years of restrictive dieting and an obsessive relationship with food and exercise, I reached a point where I realized that if the way I was doing things was ever going to work... it would've worked by now. In this video, I share what finally made me let go of the endless cycle of dieting, why I started approaching training differently, and how those two decisions completely changed my relationship with food, fitness, and myself. I share how I've become stronger than I've ever been, training for one of the toughest strength certifications I've ever attempted, while enjoying food, not exhausting myself in the gym, and living a life that isn't controlled by my body or my workouts. If you've ever felt like trying harder only leaves you feeling more exhausted and not nearly as strong as you were hoping to be, I hope this video shows you there's another way. In this episode, Marcus talks about what to look for in a training program, whether you're investing in one, downloading a free one, or putting one together yourself. We also covers a few simple ways to make the program you already have more rewarding. In this video, I talk about what to look for in a training program, whether you're investing in one, downloading a free one, or putting one together yourself. I also covers a few simple ways to make the program you already have more rewarding. Some takeaways from this video: Meaningful gains in strength, muscle, or athletic performance require specific attention to specific movements, exercises, drills, and practices, all organized into a well-thought-out program. What often damages people's relationship with training and exercise isn't the training itself. It's unrealistic promises and the misinformation surrounding those promises. How to make the most of the program you already have: Keep it simple. Focus your time and energy on high-value movements. Understand the difference between intensity and effort. In this episode, Marcus and Annabelle talk about how to create a training program that helps you build strength without feeling constantly exhausted, skipping gym days, or getting injured. Marcus, a personal trainer with over a decade of experience, takes a look at Annabelle’s training program and explains why it isn’t working, and what needs to change to build strength in a way that actually supports your life instead of getting in the way of it. In this episode, I explore why we can't always trust our feelings when assessing whether we're eating enough. I unpack the common cycle of restriction, hunger, guilt, and loss of control, and explain why getting ahead of hunger is often one of the most important steps toward a calmer, more sustainable relationship with food. The process of bulking and reducing, or bulking and cutting - intentionally gaining weight while using weight training to gain muscle, then entering a fat loss phase - is something that’s talked about a lot in the fitness space. I’ve seen it be a normal part of some people’s journey’s, and I’ve seen it go horribly wrong. In this episode, Annabelle is joining us to discuss some of her experiences and explore alternatives! But before we get into the episode remember - Please use discretion when choosing whether or not this episode is a helpful one for you. This is not a substitute for medical advice, and we are not recommending the “bulking & cutting” process.
