The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) announced its strong support for the bipartisan Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act, introduced by U.S. Senators Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ), to dramatically increase designated parking for commercial trucks. The lack of truck parking has been a problem for decades and is only getting worse as capacity has not kept pace with the increasing number of trucks on the roadways. There is currently only 1 parking spot for every 11 trucks, resulting in drivers wasting an average of one hour every day trying to secure parking. “OOIDA and the 150,000 small business truckers we represent applaud the leadership of Senator Lummis and Senator Kelly in addressing the truck parking crisis that has been building for decades,” said Todd Spencer, President of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association. “70% of American freight is transported by truck, yet there is only 1 parking spot for every 11 trucks on the road. When truck drivers don’t have a designated place to park, they end up parking on the side of the road, near exit ramps, or elsewhere. This isn’t safe for the driver and it’s not safe for others on the road. Senator Lummis and Senator Kelly have heard from small business truckers and are taking meaningful steps to increase truck parking capacity.” “Wyoming is home to three major interstates that carry thousands of tons of cargo a day. Without safe truck parking, truckers spend an unnecessary amount of time searching for a place to park putting truckers and Wyoming drivers at greater risk for accidents. This is easily solvable, and I am thankful to Senator Kelly for joining me in finding a commonsense solution,” said Senator Lummis. “People in Wyoming are still feeling the impacts of the supply chain crisis, and unreliable truck parking is another contributing factor to that. Fixing the parking problem will help ease this burden on consumers.” “A lack of accessible and reliable truck parking makes our roads less safe. Our bipartisan legislation will expand freight truck parking to ensure that truck drivers can safely and efficiently move the goods that support our nation’s economy and supply chains,” said Senator Mark Kelly. Drivers need the ability to rest in safe places to best operate on America’s roadways. Trucks parked on highway shoulders, exit and entrance ramps, vacant lots, and side streets create an immediate safety hazard for truck drivers and other roadway users. Additionally, the time drivers waste finding safe parking is time not spent getting goods to their destination, slowing the supply chain and raising the costs for consumers. Expanding truck parking capacity will improve road safety and supply chain efficiency. The Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act would invest hundreds of millions of dollars in the creation of new truck parking spaces. Funding would be awarded on a competitive basis and applicants would be required to submit detailed proposals to the U.S. Department of Transportation. The primary focus would be to construct new truck parking facilities and convert existing weigh stations and rest areas into functional parking spaces for truck drivers. The bill is similar to legislation introduced by Representatives Mike Bost (R-IL) and Angie Craig (D-MN) earlier this Congress in the U.S. House of Representatives that unanimously passed the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. #parking #trucking #usa Please be sure to subscribe for more info like this https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoiXUyTepUUyeToEkvGuAyA?sub_confirmatiAnd find STTTREAM on: https://podcasts.google.com/search/stttream https://www.stitcher.com/show/stttream https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/e8409972-f824-4a46-8393-ac3763155802/stttream https://open.spotify.com/show/0lyMUlepoWaBNxxhri0G6v https://radiopublic.com/stttream-G2JlM3

Truckers for Troops® 16th annual campaign to launch during Veterans Day week (Grain Valley, Mo., Nov. 1, 2022) – The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association is getting ready to launch its annual Truckers for Troops® care package campaign. This year’s event is scheduled for the week of Nov. 7-14, 2022, which is the same week as Veterans Day. The fundraising effort has been an OOIDA tradition since 2007, dedicated to sending care packages to service personnel stationed in combat zones. Truckers for Troops has also helped a variety of veterans facilities in the U.S., including those assisting or housing wounded, disabled or homeless service members. Over the past 15 years, OOIDA has raised more than $729,000 dollars, sent more than 3,200 care packages, serving more than 39,252 members of the military. The organization has also sent aid packages to 65 different facilities caring for wounded, disabled and homeless veterans, including the Veterans Community Project. During Truckers for Troops week, a broadcast is planned for each day on OOIDA’s Land Line Now satellite radio show on Sirius XM 146. During that week, truckers can join OOIDA or renew their membership for $35, with 10 percent of that money going toward care packages. OOIDA matches the 10 percent dollar for dollar. Individual tax-deductible contributions to the Truckers for Troops fund are also welcome and can be paid to the OOIDA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Truckers can also visit OOIDA’s tour truck, The Spirit of the American Trucker, during the campaign and sign up or renew their membership. To contribute, join or renew, individuals can call OOIDA’s main number, 816-229-5791. Here are more instructions: During business hours, let operators know you’re calling about the telethon and they will transfer you to Membership. After business hours, go to OOIDA.com and click on “Become a Member.” Also, if you call after 5:30 p.m. central time, call the main number and press 1 – it will put you in a voicemail where you can leave your name and phone number for membership to call you back. You can join online or make a direct donation at OOIDA.com. (We have a page for donations only and more info: https://www.ooida.com/truckers-for-troops/). You can join or renew your membership with OOIDA for as many years as you like – whether it’s 1 year, 5 years, 10 years or a lifetime membership – at $35 for each year, and 10 percent of the total will go to the campaign fund, with OOIDA matching the money. PACKAGE ADDRESSES Anyone who has a family member or friend serving with the U.S. military, and who would like for them to get a care package, can send the name and complete address to troops@ooida.com and be sure to include projected stateside return date. CARDS AND LETTERS Attention: Truckers for Troops, P.O. Box 1000, Grain Valley, MO 64029. Towns or school names can be included, but please do not include last names or other personal information. Green Island EV Corp. (“GIEV”) is an early-stage company founded to manufacture commercial, microtransit electric vehicles in Green Island, New York. According to BloombergNEF (“BNEF”), “Global sales of commercial electric vans and trucks more than doubled in 2021. Most of these are lighter vehicles, where the market is set to turn electric quickly in the 2020s" (Electric Vehicle Outlook 2022, BloombergNEF). Further, BNEF expects the commercial EV sector (buses, vans & trucks) to reach approximately 1 million in sales by 2025. GIEV is well positioned given both the NY State push toward school bus electrification, and its expected ability to sell its Type A electric school bus to adjacent microtransit markets such as shuttle buses for universities, public transit, and corporate campuses. With support from the Department of Energy (DOE), CALSTART and its partners collect and analyze data from a diverse set of electric vehicles (EVs) across different applications, geographies, terrains, and climatic conditions. Data from medium- and heavy-duty (MHD) EVs – battery-electric school buses, transit buses, trucks, and off-road equipment – from both public and private fleets as well as Clean Cities Coalitions is of particular interest. With this data, we are creating a public database, visualization tools, and more to support the anticipated growth of electrified transportation nationally. https://calstart.org/projects/medium-heavy-duty-ev-deployment-data/ Please be sure to subscribe for more info like this https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoiXUyTepUUyeToEkvGuAyA?sub_confirmatiAnd find STTTREAM on: https://podcasts.google.com/search/stttream https://www.stitcher.com/show/stttream https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/e8409972-f824-4a46-8393-ac3763155802/stttream https://open.spotify.com/show/0lyMUlepoWaBNxxhri0G6v https://radiopublic.com/stttream-G2JlM3

With used truck prices trending downwards and working its way towards a more stable market, we are starting to see a shift towards wholesale pricing in the retail markets. Dealers are now looking to compete and win back market share and with a lot of the old inventory moving out, we can start seeing fresh new "right priced" retail inventory for owner-operators. Yet, given market and labor concerns it is still vital to do more with less. AB5 is now set to go into effect in the California trucking sector. On June 30, the US Supreme Court denied review of the appeal that represented the California Trucking Association’s last-ditch effort to keep the independent contractor law away from its operations. At the heart of AB5 is the ABC test, and further, the B prong of ABC. That B test defines an independent contractor as a worker who is engaged in “work that is outside the usual course of the hiring entity’s business.” A trucking company hiring an independent owner operator to move freight would presumably fail that test in any litigation. #trucking #california #supremecourt https://newyorktruckstop.com/2022/07/05/supreme-court-rejects-california-trucking-associations-appeal/ OOIDA sent the below letter in response: https://votervoice.s3.amazonaws.com/groups/ooida/attachments/OOIDA%20-%20Letter%20to%20Gov%20Newsom%20re%20AB5%20Enforcement.pdf Please be sure to subscribe for more info like this https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoiXUyTepUUyeToEkvGuAyA?sub_confirmation=1
