Comparison has a way of convincing us that God owes us more. But in Matthew 20, Jesus tells the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard to reveal a completely different way of thinking. God's Kingdom doesn't operate on merit. It operates on grace. In this episode of Deepen, Pastor Joby Martin and Pastor Ona unpack why comparison steals our joy, how entitlement blinds us to God's goodness and why the greatest reward isn't what God gives us, but that we get Him. Whether you've followed Jesus for decades or are just beginning your faith journey, this conversation is a reminder that God's grace is never earned and His plans are always better than our own. ⏱️ Timestamps: 00:00 Intro 00:17 What Does a "Good Sermon" Really Look Like? 02:04 Why Does Jesus Tell the Parable of the Workers? 04:32 Why Does the Master Hire Workers Differently? 07:19 Why Were Some Workers Still Waiting? 08:19 Why Did the Workers Become Dissatisfied? 11:23 Why Is Comparison Always a Lose-Lose? 15:23 What's the Difference Between Identity and Productivity? 18:11 How Should Christians View Their Work? 24:38 What Does God Do When We Complain? 25:28 Why Isn't Fairness a Biblical Value? 27:27 When Do We Start Resenting God's Blessings? 30:47 Is God's Design Really Better Than Ours? 38:03 Is It Ever Too Late to Come to Jesus? 43:56 What Does "The Last Will Be First" Mean? 45:06 How Does Grace Change Everything? 46:44 Final Thoughts 📖 Scripture References: • Matthew 20:1–16 • Matthew 19:16–30 • Psalm 84:10 • Romans 6:23 • John 10:10 • Luke 23:39–43 • Hebrews 12:2 • Revelation 3:15–16 📌 Supplemental Resources From This Week: • Sermon • Life Change Through the Pando App • This Week’s Full Service • Matthew Season 5 The Church of Eleven22® is a movement for all people to discover and deepen a relationship with Jesus Christ. In this conversation through Matthew 12, Pastor Joby Martin and the Deepen team unpack the difference between religion and the gospel. Legalism says God will love you if you change. Jesus didn’t just save you from your sin, He sent you into the harvest. In Matthew 9-10, Jesus declares the gospel, demonstrates His power through miracles, and then calls His followers to go. The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Faith isn’t just believing facts about Jesus, it’s trusting Him enough to move. We are called to pray earnestly, live boldly, and step into the work God has placed in front of us. Following Jesus means more than learning what He taught. It means doing what He did. What does real faith actually look like? In Matthew 9, we see two desperate people come to Jesus, not with pride or perfection, but with need. A father believing for his daughter. A woman reaching in faith after years of suffering. And Jesus meets both of them right there. This message reminds us that it’s not about how much faith you have, but where you place it. When your need outweighs your ego, you’ll finally surrender. Desperation isn’t weakness, it’s the starting point of faith. Because it’s not over until Jesus says it’s over. 📖 Scripture References: • Matthew 9 • Malachi 4 • Numbers 15 • Ephesians 2 📌 Supplemental Resources From This Week: • Woman with the Issue of Blood - Old to New - Matthew S4E2 • From Pain to Purpose - Lisa & Tiffany's Story • Woman with the Issue of Blood - Old to New - Matthew S4E2 (Full Service) • Matthew Season 4 #TheChurchOfEleven22 #JobyMartin #Jesus #Christian #BibleTeaching #Church #Matthew #DeepenPodcast #ChristianPodcast #Fear #Faith The Church of Eleven22® is a movement for all people to discover and deepen a relationship with Jesus Christ. This episode dives into Matthew 9 and the calling of Matthew, highlighting how Jesus meets us right in the middle of our sin and calls us to follow Him. Through personal stories of salvation, repentance, and transformation, we see that faith becomes real when the gospel moves from something we’ve heard to something we personally receive. The conversation emphasizes that we are not the ones searching for Jesus, He finds us. Just like Matthew in the tax booth, we are often outsiders, stuck in sin, yet still pursued by grace. It also challenges us not to minimize sin, but to recognize our deep need for a Savior, because the weight of the cross shows just how serious sin really is. At its core, this message shows that salvation begins with need, is shaped through daily surrender, and is seen in a life transformed by Jesus. 📌 Supplemental Resources From This Week: • Old To New - Matthew Season 4 Trailer • Jesus, the Friend of Sinners - Old to New - Matthew S4E1 • Jesus, the Friend of Sinners - Old to New - Matthew S4E1 (Full Service) • Matthew Season 4 About The Church of Eleven22® is a movement for all people to discover and deepen a relationship with Jesus Christ. Following Jesus isn’t about comfort— it’s about surrender. In this episode of Deepen, we explore the tension between fear and faith, the cost of truly following Jesus, and what it looks like to trust Him in the middle of life’s storms. Jesus isn’t an add-on to our plans. He is Lord and He calls us to put Him first. Faith doesn’t remove difficulty, but it anchors us in the One who has authority over every storm. When fear leads, we become paralyzed. When faith leads, we move forward with trust, courage, and obedience. No matter what you’re facing, Jesus invites you to follow Him fully, even when it costs everything. 📖 Scripture References: Matthew 8:18–27 Matthew 6:25–34 Philippians 4:6–7 📌 Supplemental Resources From This Week: • Trusting God's Goodness Through Infertility and Miracles - The Calloway's Story • Faith or Fear? - Fear to Faith - Matthew S3E1 • Faith or Fear? - Fear to Faith - Matthew S3E1 (Full Service) • Matthew Season 3 The Church of Eleven22® is a movement for all people to discover and deepen a relationship with Jesus Christ.
