In this episode, we’re joined by Greg Leisz, another one of Jackson Browne’s band mates, and a multi-instrumentalist Grammy winner. We explore That One Lyric from Jackson Browne’s “Looking Into You” and the feeling it takes Greg back to, the alienation from his parents' generation, being pulled away and severed from it, “by your music, and your desire to get out of town.” Along the way, you’ll probably be surprised to learn that Greg and Jackson went to the same high school. You’ll learn: The records Greg was influenced by as a teenager How Greg’s mom insisted he take guitar lessons and how his parents were very worried that music carried a bad outcome While Jackson’s talents were apparent in high school, Greg and his friends were not going to parties or social events; they were listening to records in their bedrooms and learning how to play the songs How Greg expanded his musical talents beyond playing guitar The first performance where Jackson became aware of Greg’s musicianship Why Greg chose “Looking Into You” and why That One Lyric has stuck with him What it’s like to perform in Jackson’s band: “The fact that I get to play with this guy and that I can call him a friend at this stage in my life is a blessing that I can't say enough about.” If you love Jackson Browne, great songwriting, or a good behind-the-music story, this one’s for you.
