"I'm a mindset guy," I often tell people when describing the content of the podcast. During a Chats with Clark episode, we will engage a conversation about mindsets and ideas that actually matter in the world. The rationale behind our actions, the "why" in what we do, brings us together. It's those mindsets that affect our view of the world. At the end of each episode, I hope that all of us are better than we were before thinking about the topics of that day. Thank you for tuning in!

Episode 85 of Chats with Clark flips the script for Serena Winters, the beloved sideline reporter for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who typically can be seen interviewing players. Now, she sits on the other side of the microphone to share with us the commitment that she brings to each aspect of her life. "When I commit to something, I'm all in," contends Serena. Growing up in SoCal (Southern California), Serena was a devout Lakers fan and felt alive with a basketball in her hands. She knew from an early age that she wanted to stick around the basketball world, so during her time at UC Santa Barbara, she volunteered with any work she could revolving the Lakers, eventually playing a pivotal role in the founding and immense growth of the media outlet Lakers Nation. Serena never backed down from an industry that is cut-throat, intense, and, especially at the time, dominated by men. She prided herself on that commitment and made sure that she was always prepared. To Serena, she created her own "luck" by constantly putting herself out there and delivering the best that she could in each situation. From there, the opportunities kept coming. During this era, Serena was covering Lakers legends like Derek Fisher and the one and only Kobe Bryant. Throughout the tenure, Kobe and Serena became close. In fact, Serena looks back fondly at the memory of asking him his final post-game interview question ever. And then there was the time that Kobe backed Serena to a leader at Nike, noting how Serena is "good people" (trust us, you need to hear this story). After the difficult decision for a departure from LA, Serena popped into Philly for a few years, where her appreciation by the fans continued to blossom, embracing all of the Sixers notion of "trusting the process." Finally, Serena and her husband came to Cleveland for a weekend to check out the landscape, as she discerned to accept the role here in Cleveland. With snow in their boots and sickness in her husband, they managed to still fall in love (or at least maybe knew that they would). A Cali woman finding her home in Cleveland, where her husband and she have expanded their family to four, is probably not what young Serena had expected; however, Serena has embodied exactly what her younger self knew, which was to build a career in the basketball world. Episode 85 is a special one that dabbles the realms of basketball greats, repeats themes of dire persistency, and touches the heart with heavy emotions on all parts of the spectrum from loss to being a mother and a joy for the daily job. Serena Winters is someone who many know from her traditions with the team and exceptional on-air presence. Tune in to episode 85 of Chats with Clark to hear her in a depth that someone as great as Serena deserves. "I realize that I keep getting more confident in my craft, so that's how I know I'm always going to keep learning," notes the ever-curious Mike Miller, who joins Chats with Clark episode 84. As a renowned artist and tattooist, Mike has learned how to stay calm and prevent nerves when delivering products that are not only permanent, but a one-time opportunity. Owner and cofounder of Green Light Tattoo and Art Gallery, Mike explains why he loves being a tattooist and artist, as he brings beauty into the world. His brother Marcus and he have always competed in life. This competition has emerged into a robust partnership and relationship, allowing them to share the joy of the art world together at Green Light. Mike, deeply philosophical, looks deeply at the world and really analyzes what it means to be alive. As such, Mike recognizes that he is continually on a journey, developing into the best versions of himself more and more. With that growth into our authentic selves, Mike believes that we thrive. With his artwork collected and displayed by athletes, stars, apartment buildings, and museums (MGK, Terry Rozier, Marcus Smart, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland to name a few) around the world, Mike strives to eventually take his work globally. Episode 84 is about commitment: it's commitment to one's self and the ongoing best versions of one's self. It's the conviction in Mike to tattoo his face to show his dedication to the craft, never having another boss other than himself, and for literally being a billboard of the life that he chooses, creates, and embraces. "I'm competitive. I'll bet on my wife each and every time," slams Fabio Salerno, the owner of Lago and Sora Restaurants in the Flats of Cleveland. Throughout episode 83, Fabio dives into what has made his wife and he so successful over the last 20 years at Lago. The common thread has been consistency. Fabio prides himself on being consistent, describing his businesses as dynamic, authentic, and delicious, three traits that have allowed him to skyrocket into being a staple of the Cleveland food and entertainment scene. As a husband and father, Fabio brings this same consistency into those roles, where he devotes his time to showing up for his family and really being present in those moments. It's in this family dynamic that Fabio has found his authentic leadership approach: he runs his businesses like a family. Each employee becomes part of that family and is respected as such, allowing for his team to stay close-knit and pushing forward through both the difficult times and also the blissful ones. Originally, as a child, Fabio learned the importance of community through his Italian family roots. Tinkering in the kitchen with his mom and grandma showed him his love for the creative aspects of cooking, and then sitting around the table brought his family together. From there, his uncles instilled in him at an early age the importance of having a network and "having a guy for that," the penned line on Fabio's "Meatballers" food truck (the shirt he wore for this episode). As someone who blends excellent eats with a vibrant nightlife experience, Fabio Salerno loves hosting events; tune in to episode 83 of Chats with Clark for an event that will leave you motivated and inspired, while also calling your loved ones to setup dinner plans and see them. Living life "unfiltered" is an idea growing in popularity throughout society. For Noura Awad and Kat, the guests of episode 82, living unfiltered means being your authentic self and aiming to put that out there at all times. Episode 82 of the Chats with Clark Podcast puts Kat and Noura on the opposite of the mic, as they are typically hosting their own podcast called Unfiltered Brew . Unfiltered Brew has emerged on the Cleveland scene as a place for Clevelanders to build their brand image and share stories of who they truly are, as Kat puts it in our conversation. As with any business, Kat and Noura experienced struggles that tested their perseverance; however, their commitment to each other as friends and the movement that they had started keep them grounded. For many, working with a best friend could be intimidating, recognizing that the friendship would be tested. As Kat and Noura put it, they are soulmates of sorts: not the romantic kind, but as best of friends who love each other dearly. This dynamic allows for them to be upfront and transparent about their needs with one another and for the show. Ultimately, their approach to running the business is a great example to all of us on how to progress through difficult situations. As two non-native English speakers, the hosts of the Unfiltered Brew Podcast sit down on episode 82 of Chats with Clark to share stories of achieving, of overcoming family difficulties and social pressures, and placing emphasis on what one truly wants to do (in their case, make a difference by adding tangible value in the lives of their listeners). "Tenacious, indomitable, and glitter-like" are the three terms that a dear friend of Brianna Koehler "Bits of Bri" used to describe her, prior to her arrival on episode 81 of the Chats with Clark Podcast. Throughout this episode, Bri shares her mindsets that epitomize these attributes. As someone devoted to bringing women together, used her YouTube channel to create a community of women who support and uplift each other, leading Bri to be penned the "first working mom on YouTube"! As a mom of three, Bri commits herself to being fully present in everything that she does. Her focus is to live a life that is holistic and vibrant, and she has taken the approach of believing in that which God has put on her heart. This approach is how she has made the difficult decisions in her life, including leaving her safe and steady job to do YouTube full-time, ending her marriage, and taking trips even solo to ensure growth and exposure in her life. "I may not take the most direct route," Bri contends, "But I'm going to get there one way or another." Episode 81 with Bri Koehler is like being in a room with a disco ball that is shining its lights all around (hence Bri's ambition to be a human version of a disco ball). This episode will take you through the mindsets, stories, and approaches of someone who is influencing the lives of others and whose inner life ought to be heard. It's raw and vulnerable and will leave all of us feeling like buying the ticket, taking the trip, and working like mad to create the life that we envision, even if that means making the hard decisions. "It's important to care about the details... Care about everything," Hayden Grove, the beloved Cleveland Jazz, rat-pack-style singer contends on episode 80 of Chats with Clark. Grove, who is a steadfast Clevelander, has been singing since he was a child, when his dad would rattle off songs for Hayden to sing. Growing up in a household that adored music, Hayden had been surrounded by an appreciation for it. Through the years, he took lessons and found that his voice developed towards a sound of the idols before him: Sinatra, Armstrong, Bublé, his own father, and more. After college, he erupted on the journalism scene, covering highlights of Cleveland sports, like the Cavs championship season, Browns playoffs, and the then-Indians World Series battle. With such success and great opportunities early on, Hayden felt that he had done all he had wanted to do in the sports world and took a chance on himself, on the music. While singing with local pianist Mike Patrone in Cleveland, Hayden started consistently posting social media videos of him singing. Each video seemed better than the next, and eventually, Hayden garnered the attention of Michael Bublé. From there, the process expedited; Season 27 of "The Voice," singing alongside Bublé, himself, and now touring as an alter-ego of "Cleveland's Crooner." Hayden's story is one that has tremendous experiences and very high highs. With them, Hayden openly discusses his bouts with mental health struggles. Hayden urges all of us to "Take our mental health the most seriously, but never to take ourselves too seriously." This passion for mental health wellbeing is near and dear to his heart, so Hayden commits great support and activism towards the realm. Episode 80 of Chats with Clark will leave you stunned, as we take you behind the scenes of the thought processes of Team Adam's Hayden Grove and what has powered Hayden to reaching new heights in his singing career and beyond. How does someone on stages in front of thousands overcome battles in his own brain? What does one do to stay grounded when hateful comments are thrown one's way? Where does God fit into all of this? And also, long live music. In episode 80, we have you covered. Tune in and enjoy Hayden Grove. In the words of Bublé, "You're a beaut, Hayden"! "I'm a homer," Chef Rocco Whalen contends to start off episode 79 of Chats with Clark ! Born and raised in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, Rocco was always in the kitchen with his grandma and his mom, learning the ins and outs of making dishes that were both delicious and filling. Moreover, Rocco learned the importance of sitting down for family dinners and chatting about anything and everything. So much so that Rocco is adamant that the world's problems would be better solved around the dinner table with a great meal and perhaps some good bourbon. This recognition of the humanity of one another is what has allowed for Rocco to excel throughout his career and life. After his initial training under the beloved women in his life, Rocco studied and practiced under the great Wolfgang Puck out in Phoenix, Las Vegas, and the west coast. At merely twenty-four-years-old, Rocco went all in on himself and opened Fahrenheit in the Tremont neighborhood back home in Cleveland. During the initial opening year of the restaurant, Rocco received praise from Gourmet magazine (and others) and began creating a significant name for himself around the city. Instead of a cut-throat approach, Rocco believed in the value of collaboration, which is what compelled Chef Rocco Whalen to befriend and learn from Cleveland staple chef Michael Symon. Like advised by Wolfgang, Rocco furthered his name for himself by being a chef that visited the tables and ensured that his restaurant attendees were always satisfied. Again, person-to-person connection is a value that Rocco has embodied from his youth. Fahrenheit is thriving with Rocco at the helm because of the full-circle approach. Tune in to hear how Rocco Whalen is using all of the best ingredients both in his food and in the environment to create top notch experiences for all who enter. Rocco is one of those people whose energy is felt when he is in the room. He's a mover. See for yourself in episode 79, and after you watch, you'll be on the phone with Fahrenheit for a reservation. Tom Rini, founder of the gym Black Flag Athletics Strength & Conditioning, joins episode 78 of the Chats with Clark Podcast to share the mindsets that allow for him to excel as a gym owner and a leader. As a member of the 2011 John Carroll University Athletic Hall of Fame, Tom exhibits a "Hall of Fame" mindset throughout his life. To earn this achievement, Tom displayed steadfast commitment to his craft, almost to an obsessive point. In business, Tom shares with his employees that energy is infectious. "If we don't act like we want to be here [at the gym], why would anyone else?" This notion of showing up every day with passion and bringing enthusiasm into each aspect of life is Tom's philosophy. Throughout the process, Tom has grown more in balance. He describes cleaning the toilets and wearing all of the hats when initially starting the business, but through trusted individuals in his corner, they encouraged him to delegate in order to take care of himself. Ultimately, that strive for balance is an ongoing quest and inherently difficult in collaboration with Tom's Hall of Fame mindset. Tune in to episode 78 of Chats with Clark to hear stories of resilience, dynamic energy, and the belief that we all can achieve growth while striving for some sort of balance. Making it to the NFL is an incredible feat, and making it to the NFL and recording your first interception against Tom Brady is a really incredible feat. For Jason Trusnik, these feats, among many others, are highlights of his underdog story and ability to outwork anyone. Joining Chats with Clark for episode 77, Trusnik shares how he is "chasing you down" in any field that he enters (literally and figuratively). For Trusnik, falling prey to mediocrity is not an option, insofar that he can exhibit top notch attitude, effort, and preparation. Excelling in these areas are what allowed Jason to make the NFL as an undrafted free agent and to compete for years, while gaining and holding the respect of NFL legendary coaches and players alike. Beyond the NFL, Jason has lived out a life mantra to "Be great today!" by opening a gym a Cleveland, OH suburb (Strongsville) called Pro Sports Performance, where he touts the nickname "The Gorilla" for his intense attributes and overt holistic strength. Through the gym, Trusnik has built a community of individuals that are striving to grow and compete with themselves each step of the way towards better versions of who they are. More, Jason displays his football knowledge and experience as the head coach of the Strongsville High School football program, where he leads young men to be "respectful dawgs." To Trusnik, a respectful dawg is someone who is a dawg, someone who puts his all out there and is going to work like mad to leave a positive impact and achieve his goals. This dawg, though, is respectful, and is the type to treat people well, lift up others, and be an outstanding sport. For high school young men, these attributes are what Trusnik preaches will carry them well into their lives, beyond merely their football careers, and allow them to excel. Tune in to episode 77 to hear about "The Gorilla," Jason Trusnik, who exhibits the characteristics needed to be great today and every day, making him the respectful dawg. Jim Walter, renowned UFC manager and entrepreneur, joins episode 75 of Chats with Clark , which Jim notes as his first real public appearance since his life flipped upside down in July 2022. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Jim was founded on service to others and thinking about the ways in which he could improve the lives of people around him, crediting Saint Ignatius High School for this mentality. On that day in July 2022, Jim's mom and grandma were brutally murdered by his brother. When the fight turned for Jim, he credits his background in jujitsu for Jim's ability to stay alive. Really, though, the fight kept going after that horrific day. Each and every day, Jim aims to be consistent. From then on, Jim recognized all the more how precious time is. In his words, his advice to younger him would be to "smell the roses" more and to spend time on things that really matter (faith, community, service to others, friendship, love, connection). With his life entirely changed, Jim worked to emerge as his best self. He never backed down and worked feverishly on growth. Prior to the tragedy, Jim was a UFC manager, which expanded past just the UFC; Jim managed the legendary careers of Stipe Miocic, Anthony "Lionheart" Smith, and even Myles Garrett, among many others. Back on his feet, though admittedly never out of the waters from this horrible day, Jim strives now to empower women athletes with his representation group called BLOOM. Jim's mom was a massive sports fan and always advocated for women in sports, and Jim sees this work at BLOOM as a great way to build his family legacy and uplift his mother's passion. As one of the most humble, disciplined men, Jim Walter encourages all of us to live by one of the quotes that he reads each morning: "I love myself and the good things that are meant for me will come to me." Tune in to episode 75 to hear Jim Walter's bone-chilling story and how he is using his story as means to develop and carry on his family legacy, while also inspiring female athletes throughout the world to keep chasing their dreams. Frankly, Jim inspires each and every person that he encounters; every person that knows Jim, loves Jim. He is THAT impressive. Episode 74 of the Chats with Clark Podcast welcomes Nick Stanoszek, the co-founder of VIO Med Spa and of Balance Modern Pilates. Stanoszek joins the show to dive into his mindsets behind being an entrepreneur, even though he would adamantly disagree with that term. To Nick, an entrepreneur is someone who pushes all of their chips in and risks it all; as someone wired the opposite, Nick refutes that he is entrepreneurial. Nick's consistency and persistency are his two attributes that have driven his success. When he took the risk to leave his job as a consultant for EY to dive fully into VIO Med Spa and eventually Balance Modern Pilates, Nick shares that he knew he would be successful because he rolls up his sleeves and will work until he figures something out. Throughout the process, many people doubted Stanoszek (which is probable when one aspires to do anything), and that motivated Stanoszek all the more to develop what he needed. In essence, Nick embodies the "watch me" mindset, proving to others that his grit and determination would outweigh the obstacles thrown his way. To that end, Nick encourages all of us to overcome obstacles and to work through the puzzle, placing aside any excuses that cloud our minds and productivity. And, importantly, when the success comes from the result of the hard work, remain humble and be good to others. Nick prides himself on those values and shares heartfelt stories as to why. Tune in to episode 74 to hear the mindsets, thought processes, and habits that allowed Nick and his brother Joe to develop the largest franchised med spa in the country and why the latest endeavor of Balance Pilates has been off to a roaring start. Recently starring in Netflix's Season 10 of Love Is Blind , Ashley Carpenter leaves the altar to join us on episode 73 of the Chats with Clark Podcast. Of course, the obvious question was contemplated. Is love really blind? Experiencing a dating "experiment" (as called on the show) that is rapid and intentionally expedited, Ashley worked to balance her reserved nature while also desiring in-depth connection. As someone who values asking the tough questions, Ashley thanks her father and family dynamic for raising her in ways that real truth is valued. Finding the balance between setting boundaries between being outgoing and bold and also that reserved nature has been a recent toil for Ashley. Nodding to the show for aiding in this realization, Ashley walked away from "Love Is Blind" with newfound appreciation for really establishing non-negotiables and never deviating from them. To that end, Ashley yearns now for "the cozy fireplace" versus the fireworks and butterflies. Having gone through Season 10, her advice to all of us is to be authentically ourselves (allowing for true depth of connection), to ask the tough questions right away in each situation (saving us time), and to remain steadfast with our non-negotiable aspects or values in someone else and ourselves. Tune in to episode 73 to hear the ways in which love really is blind and perhaps how it is not, the mindsets that Ashley takes into her updated life after the show, and why all of us will be having the difficult conversations we've been putting off after this episode. When we talk to our dogs, we use a specific playful, simplified tone that reflects the relationship that we have with our dogs. The etiquette of talking to our dogs unveils deeper truths about the ways in which etiquette is intertwined in all facets of life. Have you ever seen someone wearing a hoodie at the beach, or how about those who choose to miserably wear closed tennis shoes? These images stand out as ineffective practices that also break etiquette (in this case, of going to the beach). Surely, we all have the creative freedom to do that which we please; however, the etiquettes are rooted in effectiveness. Talking plainly to our dogs or wearing hoodies to the beach are less effective than the playful linguistics or some flip flop of sort, and so on. Tune in to episode 71 of Chats with Clark for a dive into the etiquettes in our lives, how they coincide with first impressions, and ways in which we can add our personal flair into each situation, while adhering to etiquettes, to perform at our best. "Art is the soul of humanity," contends David Biro, a Cleveland large scale artist. As the founder of "Midnight Art Club," David believes that art should be an experience, because it draws people into the art and together. Throughout Cleveland, David and his team have created exhibits that beautify the city, and he recently has taken his artwork down to Florida, where he builds and creates on the spot. During our conversation, David makes strong recommendations for those who are looking to advance their lives. "Work three jobs, drink tons of coffee, and never quit." Turning ideas into action is the quality that David believes allows him (and others) to perform well. Without action, ideas are mere thoughts.
