City go into the international break in 8th place and few would argue that 13 points on the board from 8 games has exceeded expectations. Regulars Ant Banks, Dave Tovey and host David Pottier are joined by City supporter Simon Mann of BBC 5 LIVE's Test Match Special team. The game is reviewed in depth alongside everyone's view on where we are at this early point in the 3 year project. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Skubala's former assistants got one over on their old boss as the Imps secured all 3 points with unable to breakdown their resolute defensive line. Rob Dickie's error led to the only goal and the City defender then suffered the trauma of being stretchered off with what looked a very serious leg injjury Hosted on Acast. City failed to convert a handful of real goal chances as they dominated the first half at St. Mary's Stadium. The home side had one chance and took it before the break and increased their lead just after it due to the officials not understanding the rules of the game! Tolaj put City back in with a shout on the hour but Skubala's subs didn't work and sloppy defending late on allowed the Saints to score two more. Question marks over Dickie from the panel of DaveP, Adam Taylor and Neil Sutton as Dave Tovey hosts the debate Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
A third win in a row is no mean feat and the fact that at Turf Moor City went on to achieve after going down to a goal in a match they had dominated shows the fighting spirit Michael Skubala is instilling into the players. Everyone played their part in a game that has made City's start to the season so impressive. DaveP debates the action with Ant, Adam & Paul Hosted on Acast. City had the perfect start at Deepdale when a flowing move after just 3 minutes ended with Scott Twine scoring from close range. What followed was not pretty and when the home side levelled after 51 minutes it was the least they deserved. Skubala shook things up on the hour and was rewarded when goals from Eisatt & Ballard wrapped up the points Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
First win under Skubala thanks to another good goal which was a genuine team effort finished off with aplomb by Tolaj. Once Knight's header made it 2-0 early in the 2nd half there was really only going to be one winner and that was us. DaveP debates the match action and more [*] with Dave Tovey, Ant Banks & Richard Angell [*] Williams bossing midfield, Cardines impressive start, left footed goalkeepers, awful referee, who's leaving before Wednesday, who might be coming in and what's the points haul going to be from three straight games on the road. Dom Ballard's strike on 85 minutes was good enough to win any game and it's execution was of the highest order. It put City in front for a second time but they were denied the three points their performance deserved by a questionable penalty which Birmingham scored in the very last minute. This was a much improved performance after City's opener against Millwall last weekend with Scott Twine playing a major part in it. Dave Tovey hosts the review with Ant Banks, Adam Taylor and David Pottier Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
DaveP and the panel review a disappointing start to the season as City lost 2-0 at home to Millwall. The Lions were strong early on but City fought their way back into the game until Randell's foolish challenge earned him a second yellow card and after that there was only going to be one winner. Both goals conceded were soft and there appears little understanding between Dickie and goalkeeper Tickle who makes no attempts to dominate his 6 yard area and take crosses. Skubala has played in a particular formation most of pre-season but threw all that out of the window for this game and why he elected to wait until half time before making the logical substitution which would have made 10 man City more solid only he will know. More of this and it could be a long hard season. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
DaveP debates all the topics currently on the minds of City fans with the new season opener against Millwall just around the corner. Dave Tovey, Ellie Jones, Paul Binning plus former player Chris Honor have plenty to say and that includes a tribute to "one of our own" Joe Bryan who announced his retirement this week aged just 32 Hosted on Acast. Despite 33 shots on goal City found themselves dumped out of the Carabao Cup by League 2 Walsall. Tickle had kept the scores level at half time with his quadruple save sequence but Tanner and Dickie were caught knapping just after the restart as Pressley scored he only goal of the game. DaveP debates the action and more with DaveFevs, Tom (Robins Nest) and Adam Taylor Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Beating Newcastle probably didn't help as expectations were raised going into these two games, Whilst City didn't lose either they didn't exactly impose themselves on the lower league opposition. he Plymouth line up was the stronger side and by our reckoning no more than three of those who started the game at Exeter are likely to make it to the 11 selected for Millwall in the opening league fixture. DaveP debates the action and more with Dave Tovey, Ant Banks & Paul Hunt Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
We've all been around long enough not to get too carried away by a 4-1 pre-season friendly win against Premier League side Newcastle United but there was much to admire about City as they raced to a 3 goal lead inside 50 minutes. Newcastle fans numbered 3400 in an incredible match attendance (21500) for a friendly with all in the ground standing for a minutes applause to celebrate the life of Kevin Keegan who recently passed away. Eddie Howe resigned as Newcastle's manager less than 24 hours after the final whistle and even allowing for his team's training schedule being behind City they did not sparkle at all. Dave Tovey hosts the match review with Richard Angell, Adam Taylor & David Pottier Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
England bowed out of the World Cup losing 2-1 to Argentina. It wasn't so much they beat us as we beat ourselves with a safety first approach after we had taken a deserved lead. DaveP & guests analyse the game and catch up on the latest City chit chat Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The panel celebrate England's win over Mexico which is arguably one of the best results in the competition since winning it in 1966. Current transfer activity at Ashton Gate is also assessed. Is the squad any stronger and when are, if at all, contracts going to be signed by Bird, Knight? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
DaveP is joined by Neil Sutton & Ant Banks as they assess the World Cup so far in the aftermath of England's dismal second game against Ghana. The 26/27 fixtures are also digested in terms of who, when, tough runs and more precisely can City accumulate 17-18 points from the first 10 games rather than face playing catch up. Also debated is this the summer of the Sam - Morsy gone, Bell resigned with Tickle & Greenwood in through the door!!! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Dave Tovey hosts the debate with a little bit on City but much more on the upcoming World Cup. Personal memories from the finals going back to 1966 and lots more Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
It's looking like Elphick for the HC role which we're broadly happy with. Galling to see Yu assist in getting the Tigers where we want to be. We discuss this and more although we forgot to give our view on Southampton's punishment! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Stoke gifted City the opening goal inside 90 seconds with Burgzorg tucking the ball away in what will hopefully be his last appearance for the club. Vitek kept his 14th clean sheet of the season whilst Sam Bell staked a claim for a new contract with his 5th goal of the season in under 400 minutes of playing time. Dave Tovey hosts the debate on match action and more with Dave P, Ant Banks & Tom [Robin's Nest) Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
DaveP debates the action from a disappointing afternoon in the midlands with Dave Tovey, Paul Hunt & Neil Sutton. Talk also focuses on overplaying players and the continuance of a seeming lack of progress in hiring the Sporting Director Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Despite twice allowing the Saints to draw level this was a good performance against a Southampton team who still have hopes of automatic promotion. The much maligned Delano Burgzorg put in his best display so far in a City shirt to such a level that it brought favourable words from Roy Hodgson. Two games to go before the season's end, DaveP discusses with DaveT, Ant Banks & Liam Healy how much work needs to be done over the next 3 months with no Sporting Director or Head Coach in place Hosted on Acast.
