in 1977, The Electric Light Orchestra released their double album "Out Of The Blue". It was the shot of melodic pop the 1970's needed badly at the time. A new sub genre emerged in the mid to late 1960's referred to as "Sunshine Pop" today. It was happy, light music with a pop sound. It was a juxtaposition to the heavier events like the Vietnam War, student protests and assassinations. This music took you away from all that and gave you a lighter sound. The Ballroom was a studio band led by Curt Boettcher with sweet harmonies. The Cowsills were a family band that inspired The Partridge Family TV Show. Also... In England in 1968, there was a lingering effect from the previous year's Summer of Love. Bands that finally got the opportunity to record their own songs, were still trying to catch up with Sgt. Pepper, The Beatles masterpiece. But Flower Power reached its end by 1968, and the public's interest shifted to harder sounding rock. But there were alot of great records that were released though they didn't get much regard. Today, those records are revered by collectors and command alot of money on eBay and Discogs. Also... The U.K. band The Pretty Things created what is arguably, the first concept album with a storyline, "S.F. Sorrow". In other words, the first rock opera. They began the recordings in 1967, but the album was released a year by their label EMI. The Summer of Love was over, and the concept was too new for rock audiences to take in, and so the album sold poorly. Over the decades, the album as gained a huge following, and the record is new assessed as a true classic. Also... Pink Floyd recorded several seminal albums during the 1970's. They were on the cutting edge of recording technology and had an advance lighting system for their live performances, which they added other props to enhance their live show presentation. But before they became known as a great live attraction with impressive recordings, there was a period where the band was trying to find their own identity after original singer and songwriter, Syd Barrett left the band. It was a period of sonic experimentation and concept development. Roger Waters stepped up to be the band's lyricist while the others developed the music. It was both a creative time and also and eccentric time for the band musically. These are select tracks from this period before they recorded their great album "Dark Side of The Moon". Also...
