For more than forty years, Cynthia L. Clack—a Texas Board Certified Family Law specialist—has identified a troubling trend within the legal system. Through her experience, Clack has repeatedly witnessed court outcomes that fail to align with the available evidence in cases involving child sexual abuse, trafficking, and coercion. Investigations frequently stall, judicial decisions are often overturned, and the voices of key witnesses are routinely disregarded. As a result, the system too often leaves its most vulnerable members without adequate protection. In her book, Discovering the Club, Clack draws upon decades of meticulously documented case files, court transcripts, depositions, and law enforcement records to expose how systemic failures intersect with undue influence, institutional silence, and organizational breakdown. Set against the backdrop of one of Texas’s wealthiest regions, the evidence she presents challenges common assumptions about where exploitation occurs and who receives protection, revealing patterns of abuse that demand greater scrutiny. More than a simple exposé, Discovering the Club compels readers to confront uncomfortable realities and reflect on what true accountability entails. For those prepared to face these difficult truths, Clack’s work offers a crucial first step toward vindicating the voiceless and safeguarding the unprotected. She is the author of "Discovering the Club: Piecing Together the Puzzling Network of Parental Pimping, Ritualistic Abuse, and Sex Trafficking." https://cynthiaclack.com/ http://www.yourlotandparcel.org Support the show

For millennia, nature has inspired profound spiritual experiences—filling people with wonder, gratitude, and peace. Today, however, the natural world is increasingly threatened by fire, pollution, and extinction. In his latest book, Roger S. Gottlieb poses a pressing question: Can nature still serve as a source of spiritual inspiration in the face of ecological crisis? Drawing on decades of original scholarship in environmental ethics, religious environmentalism, contemporary spirituality, and fiction, Gottlieb examines how the current environmental emergency is reshaping spiritual life. He explores the sense of loss and vulnerability that arises when what once nourished humanity—and was expected to sustain future generations—is now imperiled. As people seek refuge from the harshness and chaos of human society, they are confronted with vanishing bird species and oceans choked with plastic. Gottlieb begins by clarifying the concept of spirituality and explaining why nature has long held a principal place in spiritual practice for both religious and secular individuals. He then analyzes the environmental crisis as a civilizational rupture, one that transforms our understanding of hope, grief, meaning, and moral responsibility. According to Gottlieb, nature-based spirituality must adapt to ecological loss and fragility. Despite the challenges, he argues that it is possible to cultivate a spirituality in which grief is balanced by gratitude, compassion is paired with moral outrage, and acceptance is joined with active solidarity and love for all living things. He is the author of "Nature Spirituality and Environmental Crisis: Embracing a Sacred, Wounded Earth." https://www.rogersgottlieb.com/ http://www.yourlotandparcel.org Support the show
A new and potentially dangerous trend is taking hold among young people: spending hours baking in the sun, chasing clear skies and high UV levels—all too often without a single drop of sunscreen. This risky behavior, known as “tanmaxxing,” is rapidly gaining popularity on social media platforms, where bronzed skin is celebrated and sun safety is often ignored. But dermatologists are sounding the alarm. “I guess ‘melanoma maxxing’ was not available or did not track well with focus groups, because that is what you are doing,” warns Dr. Adam Friedman, chair of dermatology at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. “You are accelerating and increasing the potential for skin cancers.” The statistics are sobering. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer at some point in their lives, making it the most generic form of cancer in the United States. Despite these risks, the allure of a sun-kissed glow continues to outweigh concerns about long-term health for many young people. Dr. Friedman emphasizes that there is no such thing as a “safe” natural tan. “The only safe tan is an artificial one,” he says, referring to sunless tanning products. For those who do spend time outdoors, he strongly recommends simple protective measures such as applying broad-spectrum sunscreen, wearing a hat, and seeking shade whenever possible. These steps can significantly reduce the risk of skin damage and skin cancer. https://precisionnanomedicine.com/ http://www.yourlotandparcel.org Support the show
There are countless animals sharing our planet, but few are as surprising as the hyrax (Procavia capensis). Known for their intelligence, distinctive vocalizations, and even commended in the Bible for their wisdom, hyraxes are truly remarkable creatures. @Hyraxhub’s mission is to educate others about these fascinating animals and to highlight how even the most unassuming species have unique stories worth telling. Where did hyraxes come from, and why have they suddenly gained popularity? Although hyraxes are widespread across Africa and parts of the Middle East, they remained unknown online until recently. The journey began in 2023, when the creator behind Hyraxhub was designing premium, autism-friendly plushies. During this time, they noticed a growing number of posts about hyraxes on autism forums—an animal that had long been a personal favorite. Posts from creators like Sea_777 further revealed just how few people were familiar with hyraxes. Several hyrax-focused accounts already existed at the time. For example, Darren Collins recalls having “300 followers” on his account about Squiggy the Hyrax before interest began to rise around 2024. Meanwhile, a handful of ranchers in the Middle East farm hyraxes, but their videos rarely reach audiences beyond their local communities. Recognizing the need for a central resource, Hyraxhub was launched in September 2023, along with a dedicated website and subreddit, to help people discover and learn about these intriguing animals. https://hyrax.world/hyraxhub/ http://www.yourlotandparcel.org Support the show

Recently, the United States Supreme Court ruled 8–1 in favor of a U.S. company seeking compensation for property in Cuba that was confiscated after Fidel Castro came to power more than 65 years ago. This decision has reignited important questions about property seizures during the Castro era, the relationship between the U.S. and Cuba, and the ongoing impact of the Helms-Burton Act. Attorney Glenn E. Wichinsky, an expert in international gaming law, business, and organized crime history, explains the historical significance of this ruling. He discusses how the Cuban government’s seizure of property after the revolution affected American casino owners and organized crime figures, and why Cuba continues to be a key legal and political issue for U.S. businesses today. https://globalgaminglawyer.com/ http://www.yourlotandparcel.org Support the show
At 9:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945, an American bomber dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, instantly destroying the city and killing tens of thousands. Three days later, a second bomb devastated Nagasaki. In just 75 hours, the United States—once opposed to bombing civilians—killed 120,000 people and condemned many more to slow, painful deaths. Empire of Ashes examines the final, brutal months of the Pacific War, drawing on survivor interviews and Japanese sources. Author James M. Scott weaves together personal stories, the scientific debates behind the bombs, and the political maneuvering between President Truman and Emperor Hirohito that led to Japan’s surrender. The book confronts enduring questions: What justified the only use of nuclear weapons in war? How does a nation balance the pride of victory with the horror of its actions? With vivid detail, Empire of Ashes explores the moral dilemmas at the heart of America’s decision to unleash total war on Japan. https://www.jamesmscott.com/ http://www.yourlotandparcel.org Support the show
The root cause of group inhumanity is our unconscious loyalty to inherited identities, not just tribalism or fanaticism, he says. Toward the Turning reveals how these identities divide and inflame us, using 9/11 and the “War on Terror” as examples. The book argues that global conflicts are not battles of good versus evil, but “deadly dances” driven by our attachment to identity. These identities help us cope with uncertainty but also lead to violence and misunderstanding. At the heart of the problem there is a mistaken belief that the self is separated from the world, making identity seem fixed and fueling conflict. Scott Gibbs calls for a “turning”—a shift in understanding that helps us live with uncertainty, loosen the grip of identity, and move beyond destructive patterns. https://www.amazon.com/Toward-Turning-Rethinking-Civilizations-Postmodern/dp/3838217667 https://www.mscottgibbs.com/home http://www.yourlotandparcel.org Support the show

She says that the real reasons behind the dysfunction in our schools are hidden beneath layers of carefully crafted propaganda and a climate of fear, perpetuated by school boards across the nation. Their covert tactic—abusing teachers to silence the truth—ensures that administrations, not the will of the people, remain in control. Teacher abuse is not only wrong and harmful, but it is also the main barrier to meaningful reform. By silencing those with firsthand knowledge, it allows those in power to mislead parents and the public. As a result, our schools often serve political agendas rather than the needs of society. School board elections are manipulated by self-serving administrations, and few people are aware of this because intimidated teachers are forced to comply without question. The following site is designed to be a resource for the public, providing information to uncover the truth about our schools and to challenge the widespread misinformation. https://endteacherabuse.org/index.html http://www.yourlotandparcel.org Support the show
