"We sat down with Bill Fussner of Murphy Pipelines to discuss how education and execution are driving HDPE growth across the country. With a background in pipeline rehab and engineering, Bill focuses on working with utilities and engineers early to position HDPE and trenchless methods as long-term solutions. Murphy’s core strength is trenchless installation, specifically CompressionFit, sliplining and pipe bursting. These methods allow the installation of fully fused, leak-free HDPE systems with minimal disruption and significantly lower impact than open-cut methods in complex corridors. The takeaway: aging infrastructure continues to fail, and HDPE paired with trenchless methods offers a more durable, scalable path forward."
Data centers are reshaping infrastructure design, particularly for cooling systems and underground utilities. In this episode of the Poly Podcast, we sit down with Andy McElroy of McElroy Manufacturing to discuss why HDPE and PPR-CT are increasingly specified for this rapidly expanding market. The conversation examines how hyperscalers evaluate piping systems through performance, constructibility and long term reliability. Andy explains why fusible HDPE is widely used for underground chilled water, process water, wastewater and conduit applications. Inside facilities, PPR-CT is gaining traction where higher operating temperatures and dimensional stability are required. Key drivers include corrosion resistance, system cleanliness, reduced weight and hydraulic performance. The episode highlights the scale of modern data center development and its impact on pipe volume, prefabrication and quality control. Andy discusses automated fusion using McElroy equipment, including the Acrobat I Series, ProFab 400i and the McElroy Datalogger, used to document fusion parameters and support consistent joint quality. As hyperscalers continue deploying HDPE and PPR-CT, adoption is extending beyond private development and into municipal systems. Proven performance is building confidence among engineers, contractors and utilities and accelerating broader use of fusible piping across water and utility infrastructure.
David O’Sullivan, President of P.W. Trenchless Construction Ltd., is a pioneer in Trenchless Technology. Originally from Ireland, he moved to Canada in 1978 and became manager of P. Baratta Construction by 1989. He led major HDD and Microtunneling projects, including the first HDD crossings of False Creek and the Fraser River. In 2000, he founded P.W. Trenchless to specialize in Pipe Bursting. A founding member of the North West chapter of the North American Society of Trenchless Technologies, he remains an active leader in the field.
