Discover how new laser welding breakthroughs overcome transmission limitations in complex designs and high-performance polymers, enabling strong, precise welds for demanding applications. Laser welding is a clean, precise joining method that creates strong weld seams in competitive cycle times. Yet transmission limitations caused by complex 3D designs or high-performance polymers such as PPS and PPA can stand in the way of broader adoption, especially for applications pushing thermal, chemical, or mechanical boundaries. But what if those boundaries could be moved? This podcast dives into new breakthroughs in laser transmission welding, including an absorbing-to-absorbing laser welding technique that opens possibilities where traditional transmission paths fail. About this podcast — Made for engineers and product development teams, these easy-listening episodes explore practical engineering challenges and the material choices behind them — giving you insight you can put to work in your own designs. At Envalior, we help you reduce time, cost, risk and CO₂. The goal is simple: to help you select and process the right material more easily, and to deliver solutions with proven impact in the real world. More information: www.envalior.com
In challenging terrains and demanding environments traditional pneumatic tires can easily experience tire puncture and blow outs, uneven or accelerated wear, heat sensitivity and / or limited durability. This leads to equipment downtime and revenue loss. This podcast explains how non-pneumatic (airless) tires made of Arnitel deliver greater efficiency and reliability: a single flat on a pneumatic tire can easily exceed the cost of a non-pneumatic tire installation. For non-pneumatic tires, the economics come down to material performance. The airless design replaces air with an engineered polymer web that carries the load, and that web has to survive millions of compression-and-recovery cycles without overheating or taking a permanent set. This is where Arnitel, a thermoplastic copolyester (TPC, also called TPEE), outperforms thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), offering higher flex-fatigue endurance, better dynamic creep resistance to prevent flat-spotting under standing load, and a wide operating window of roughly -30 to +100 degrees C. It also resists hydrolysis, chemicals and microbial attack, which matters for equipment left outdoors in agriculture, construction, mining and turf care. Because Arnitel is a thermoplastic, worn tires can be re-melted and recycled instead of landfilled. With service life often cited at two to three times that of a comparable pneumatic tire, the payoff shows up as measurable gains in uptime, total cost of ownership and lifecycle CO2, plus the consistent reliability that autonomous and unmanned vehicles depend on. Discover how accurate gear lifetime modeling predicts strength and durability, helping prevent failures while accelerating development and reducing testing time and costs. To be successful in gear applications, it is key to accurately predict short- and long-term mechanical performance, such as static strength due to misuse or stall torque and durability performance with root fracture as a failure mode. This podcast explains how, with fundamental material knowledge and gear-application know-how, one can combine test results into a model that provides accurate lifetime predictions, and how this can reduce development time and costs. Discover how reimagining actuator gearboxes enables scalable robot production, delivering precise, high-torque motion while overcoming hardware constraints that limit cost-effective mass deployment. With AI capabilities advancing and actuator architectures stabilizing, the demand for robots is accelerating across industries. Yet, while software scales at near-zero marginal cost, hardware does not. Actuator gearboxes remain a stubborn constraint. Every robotic arm however depends on high-torque, low backlash gearboxes for precise, repeatable motion. In this podcast we’ll address the shift from small-batch robotics innovations to true mass deployment, and how the actuation concept itself must be reimagined to enable this shift. Discover how leveraging intrinsic material properties enables PTFE-free plastics to meet evolving PFAS regulations while maintaining low friction, durability, and reliable performance. PTFE is widely used as a friction-reducing additive in plastics such as POM, PEEK, and standard polyamides. However, as a PFAS, it faces increasing regulatory restrictions from bodies including ECHA, the US EPA, and Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Simply removing PTFE results in increased friction, heat, and wear. The podcast’s solution is to leverage intrinsic material properties rather than additives, enabling compliance without compromising performance.
