In this episode of Savoring the End, I reflect on the changing winds of early autumn and the feeling that something in the air is asking us some big questions about our next steps. 🤝 Share this Video : https://youtu.be/ZyIXMLz7yWU 🌿 Subscribe for herbal tips and wellness insights: https://skyh.to/SUB Drawing inspiration from the film Chocolat, I explore the wind as both a force that calls us forward and one that exposes what is tender. Sometimes the wind tells us it is time to leave. At other times, it asks us to stay, protect what we love, and become more deeply rooted in our values. There is a strange pause in the garden right now. Summer isn't quite over, but autumn hasn't fully arrived. As late summer reaches its peak, the garden begins to bow beneath its own fullness. In this episode, I explore Doyo, the transitional season associated with the Earth element and how we have to work this time of year to stay grounded. 🤝 Share this Video : https://youtu.be/HXaWr_d4uy4 🌿 Subscribe for herbal tips and wellness insights: https://skyh.to/SUB I’ll take you on a tour of my garden, my mammoth sunflowers, Joe Pye weed, and look for the signs of Doyo in each of them. I share a few simple practices for building support from the ground up and stories from my life when things almost fell apart. In this episode: ● What the sunflowers are teaching me about fullness, endings, and support ● Doyo, the Earth element, and the practice of returning to center ● Simple grounding rituals with bare feet and trees ● A short strength practice for building physical support and reserves ● A centering tea with chamomile, catnip, ginger, licorice, and rosemary ● A simple navel-pulse practice for exploring your own sense of alignment As the season begins to turn, perhaps the invitation isn't to resist the change, but to strengthen our roots, tend our center, and create the support we need for what comes next. A 15-MINUTE STRENGTH PRACTICE Here are some equipment free practices you can do each day to build strength in your core and in the supportive muscles of your body. - Wall sit — held 30-45 seconds, repeated 2-3 times - Plank — held 30-45 seconds, repeated 2-3 times - Push-ups (modified on knees if needed) — 3 sets of 10 - Bicycle crunches — 3 sets of 10 HERBAL SUPPORT — A CENTERING TEA BLEND These herbs warm and support digestion, assimilation, and transformation, while also relaxing and centering emotionally. - Chamomile and catnip — calming the nervous system - Ginger — warming digestion - Licorice — grounding sweetness, adrenal support (avoid if you have HBP) - Rosemary — mental clarity and circulation Visit my website: https://www.skyhouseherbs.com/ Watch my video on Rosemary - Herb of the Month: https://youtu.be/m4GacKSTeP4?si=GTibNmRahGJOUR_C Watch ny NEW Rooted in the Stars Series - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLP8chd2N9iSk&si=vD9GplfZxeVRBhQ9 HERBAL COURSES 🌱 HERBAL FOUNDATIONS APPRENTICESHIP A 12‑month online journey designed to help you weave herbal medicine into the fabric of daily life. Meet Jewelweed (Impatiens capensis), one of my favorite late-summer plants for cooling, soothing, and tending hot, irritated skin. 🤝 Share this Video : https://youtu.be/H4etBI78_Q0 🌿 Subscribe for herbal tips and wellness insights: https://skyh.to/SUB In this month’s Herb of the Month, I take you into the garden to meet Jewelweed up close. I’ll show you how to identify it, harvest its juicy, gel-like stems, and use it fresh on the skin. In this episode, we’ll explore: ● It’s many names like “touch-me-not” and spotted jewelweed ● Its traditional uses for poison ivy, bug bites, stings, and hot skin rashes ● How to harvest and use the cooling sap inside its succulent stems ● Why Jewelweed so often grows right alongside poison ivy ● Some of the plant’s medicinal constituents and what modern research has to say ● Stories from my own experiences using Jewelweed, including with the young herbalists at my recent Junior Herbalist Camp I’ll also share an important conversation about the difference between traditional herbal knowledge, personal experience, and clinical research and how we can hold all three with curiosity and respect. What does it mean to let something end? In this episode, I’m taking you into the late summer garden to explore the simple practice of deadheading and what it can teach us about letting go. As I remove spent blooms from my petunias, I reflect on the ways we continue to hold onto things that have already completed their cycle and how much energy that can quietly require. 🤝 Share this Video : https://youtu.be/g4B8UtdovJo 🌿 Subscribe for herbal tips and wellness insights: https://bit.ly/4iRnpyX Just as a plant redirects its energy when we remove dying flowers, we can create space in our own lives by recognizing what is finished and allowing it to go. 🌿 In this episode, I explore: • What deadheading teaches us about letting go • How to recognize what is fading, decaying, or already complete • Why releasing something at the right time can support new growth • How digestion and elimination mirror the body's natural processes of release • Gentle herbal support including triphala, marshmallow root, psyllium husk, and fiber • How eclipses and seasonal cycles can invite reflection and change • The symbolism of Mary Magdalene, the skull, and the relationship between death and new life The garden reminds us that we cannot grasp anything forever. Flowers bloom and fade. Seasons change. Bodies release. Old versions of ourselves fall away. Sometimes the most loving thing we can do is recognize what has already ended, remove what is no longer serving the whole, and give our energy back to what is still alive. 🌱 This week, I invite you to go outside and deadhead something. As you do, consider what you might also be ready to release in your own life. What are you ready to let go of as we move toward autumn? 💚 If you enjoyed this episode, please like, subscribe, and share it with someone who might need this message today. In this final episode of A Devotional Life in a Broken World, I spend time with Yarrow, one of our oldest and most enduring medicinal plants. For thousands of years, Yarrow has accompanied humanity through injury, grief, and survival. She has never promised a world without wounds. Instead, she teaches us how to tend them with courage and keep walking. 🤝 Share this Video : https://youtu.be/jgI5kFgEgvc 🌿 Subscribe for herbal tips and wellness insights: https://bit.ly/4iRnpyX As I filmed this episode, the world itself seemed to be carrying fresh heartbreak: places of worship desecrated and restored, wildfires surrounding sacred ground, earthquakes displacing families, the loss of members of our own community, and the familiar feeling of searching for words when none seem adequate. Rather than asking how we fix a broken world, I explore a quieter question: What does devotion look like when we cannot hold everything at once? Throughout this series we have discovered that devotion is not about certainty or having the perfect response. It is about returning, again and again, to what is ours to tend. Drawing on the wisdom of Yarrow, the words of Clarissa Pinkola Estés, and a deeply personal story about an unexpected family heirloom, I reflect on the small acts of care that quietly stitch our lives back together. This episode closes not with answers, but with a simple devotional practice and a final invitation to carry one living question forward. Sometimes the most faithful thing we can do is place our hands on something growing and let that be enough for today. In this episode: • The ancient medicine and symbolism of Yarrow as a plant of healing and perseverance • Why devotion is not about finding perfect answers, but continuing to show up • Reflections on grief, sacredness, and finding meaning in overwhelming times • A personal story about inheritance, memory, and the quiet ways symbols find us • A closing ritual for carrying your own unanswered questions with greater trust If this series has accompanied you in your own devotional life, I hope these conversations continue long after the videos end. The questions are still alive. The garden is still here. And perhaps that is enough to begin again. In this fourth episode of A Devotional Life in a Broken World , I sit with Rose and one of the most tender questions I know: What is faith, and how do we find it again after it has been wounded? 🤝 Share this Video : https://youtu.be/oWRqQLw4GLo 🌿 Subscribe for herbal tips and wellness insights: https://bit.ly/4iRnpyX Drawing from my own childhood experiences with Catholicism, stories of my grandmother's quiet devotion, the Christian mystical tradition, Sufi poetry, and the timeless symbolism of the rose, I explore the difference between faith as inherited belief and faith as a living relationship. Together we consider what happens when the containers we were given for devotion crack, and whether losing trust in an institution must also mean losing trust in the sacred itself. For centuries, Rose has been a symbol of the heart that continues to open despite sorrow. Known as Rosa Mystica , the Mystical Rose, she reminds us that faith is often hidden beneath the surface, alive in the roots long before we see it bloom again. This episode is an invitation to grieve what has been lost, honor the questions that refuse easy answers, and tend the small daily practices that quietly rekindle the flame of devotion. In this episode we explore: • Why questioning can be an expression of faith rather than its opposite • Rose as a symbol of devotion across Christian, alchemical, Sufi, and goddess traditions • Childhood wounds, spiritual disillusionment, and finding our way back to trust • The hidden nature of faith and the image of Rosa Mystica • Simple daily rituals that help keep the heart open to the sacred Whether you are rebuilding your spiritual life, grieving a tradition that could not hold you, or simply longing to feel connected to something deeper again, I hope this conversation offers companionship more than conclusions. 🔔 Subscribe to Nightlight Astrology: https://nla.to/SUB Book - “Untie the Strong Woman” - by Clarissa Pinkoles Estes - https://amzn.to/3SKDv6g HERBAL COURSES 🌱 HERBAL FOUNDATIONS APPRENTICESHIP A 12‑month online journey designed to help you weave herbal medicine into the fabric of daily life. In this third episode of A Devotional Life in a Broken World, I spend time with Clematis, a plant that offers no herbal medicine, no harvest, and no practical utility but simply climbs toward the light and offers its beauty freely. 🤝 Share this Video : https://youtu.be/SthCESqL8-4 🌿 Subscribe for herbal tips and wellness insights: https://bit.ly/4iRnpyX Watching Clematis has made me wonder how often I measure my own life by productivity, usefulness, or visible outcomes. What would it mean to pray, to rest, to read, to create, or to simply be present without needing those moments to produce something in return? Together in this episode, we explore devotion that asks for no audience and expects no reward. Inspired by the writings of Clarissa Pinkola Estés, this episode reflects on beauty that continues to bloom even when it is unseen and the quiet courage of offering ourselves fully to something larger than our own ambitions. I also share one of my own devotional practices: making small pilgrimages to places that help me remember my place in the world so I can simply arrive and offer something small to a mothering force that feeds me so much. If you've been feeling exhausted by the pressure to always produce, perhaps Clematis has something to offer you as well. In this episode we explore: • Clematis as a teacher of beauty for beauty's sake • Devotion beyond productivity and measurable outcomes • Prayer, contemplation, and sacred rest • The spiritual practice of pilgrimage • Living without the need for an audience or recognition • Two things can be true: Living a devotional life AND being a social activist Reflection Questions • What in your life is asking to be tended without any promise of return? • Have you been measuring your devotion by its productivity? • What does true rest feel like in your body? • Is there a place you could visit regularly simply to become small and present? Thank you for joining me in this ongoing inquiry into what it means to live a devotional life in a broken world! In this Herb of the Month episode, I introduce you to Creeping Charlie (Ground Ivy, Glechoma hederacea) and explore why this resilient little plant deserves a place in our herbal practice. In this episode, we'll explore: • How to identify Creeping Charlie in the garden and distinguish it from similar plants • Its traditional uses for supporting the kidneys, headaches, and the nervous system • Why it has become one of my favorite herbs to consider after tick bites and in Lyme recovery support • How to use the fresh leaves as a spit poultice and other simple herbal preparations • The fascinating doctrine of signatures that connects its heart shaped leaves with its healing actions • Historical uses, folklore, and why this often overlooked plant has remained an important herbal ally for centuries Whether you've been pulling Creeping Charlie from your flower beds for years or you're meeting this plant for the first time, I hope this episode helps you see it with fresh eyes and a deeper appreciation for the medicine growing all around us. 🌿 Herb of the Month Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtGmbdK5tigdQ6AtMVIyHsQ7fytqaR25Q&si=tiXhIcFu58rTaKVt Chapters: Herb of the Month — Creeping Charlie 0:00 Welcome 4:14 Poultice 8:32 Reflection HERBAL COURSES 🌱 HERBAL FOUNDATIONS APPRENTICESHIP A 12‑month online journey designed to help you weave herbal medicine into the fabric of daily life. In this second episode of A Devotional Life in a Broken World , I sit with Motherwort, a plant whose very name holds a beautiful paradox: lion hearted strength and deep maternal tenderness. In this episode you'll discover: • Why protection and vulnerability are partners, not opposites • The herbal wisdom and symbolism of Motherwort ( Leonurus cardiaca ) • Simple daily practices for creating an energetic container • Reflection questions to help you discern where your energy is being called and where it is being depleted My hope is that this conversation offers both comfort and courage as you continue cultivating a devotional life rooted in presence, discernment, and the quiet strength of the lion heart. What does it cost to begin? What am I willing to be stung by in order to be fed? These are the questions I sit with in the opening episode of a new five part series exploring what it means to live a devotional life in a world where many of our spiritual, cultural, and ecological containers feel fractured. Rather than offering answers, I want to create space for honest inquiry, trusting that the questions themselves can become a form of prayer. 🤝 Share this Video : https://youtu.be/02Wv5uKuI7s 🌿 Subscribe for herbal tips and wellness insights: https://bit.ly/4iRnpyX Our guide for this first conversation is Stinging Nettle, one of the most nourishing plants in the herbal tradition and one that asks something of us before she offers her gifts. She grows in disturbed places. She stings when we reach for her carelessly. Yet beneath that sting is profound nourishment, resilience, and the quiet promise that life returns, even after devastation. In this episode I reflect on beginning from a place of humility rather than certainty, allowing longing itself to become a doorway into the sacred. Drawing inspiration from Clarissa Pinkola Estés and the image of the Divine Mother who meets us most readily in our need, I explore how our deepest hunger may not be a problem to solve, but the very place where devotion begins. To close our time together, I invite you into one simple practice that has become central to my own spiritual life: creating a small altar dedicated to the Divine Mother or to whatever sacred presence calls to you. It doesn't have to be elaborate. A candle. A stone. A flower. A living plant. The practice is simply making a place in your home and in your life that is devoted to something beyond productivity and achievement. In this episode we explore: • Why devotion often begins in longing rather than certainty • What Stinging Nettle teaches us about resilience, boundaries, and nourishment • How disturbed ground can become fertile ground for transformation • Creating a simple altar as a daily act of devotion Questions for Reflection • What are you hungering for? • What have you been avoiding because you are afraid of being stung? • What would it mean to begin your devotional life from exactly where you are, rather than where you think you should be? I'd love to hear what this conversation awakens for you. Share your reflections in the comments, and if this series resonates with you, please subscribe and join me as we continue exploring what it means to cultivate a devotional life alongside the wisdom of the plants. In this episode, I bring my exploration of the Divine Mother to its culmination. Over the past several episodes, we have journeyed together through Fire, Water, Earth, and Air, discovering the many ways the Divine Mother reveals herself through the living world. Now I gather those threads together and explore what it means to find hope, belonging, and connection in a culture that often feels disconnected from her presence. 🤝 Share this Video : https://youtu.be/XtRljWwLOjY 🌿 Subscribe for herbal tips and wellness insights: https://bit.ly/4iRnpyX Using cards from several oracle and tarot decks, I reflect on the wounds many of us carry and the path that leads us home. Through the wisdom of Mary Magdalene, the creative spirit of community, the focused work of the healer, the integration of opposites, and the loving presence of the Earth herself, I share a roadmap for remembering who we are and how we belong. I also explore the growing role of artificial intelligence and the ways modern technology can begin to replace the traditional roles of oracle, elder, and shaman. From there, I discuss the importance of masks, ritual, and sacred boundaries in helping us inhabit our roles with greater clarity and purpose. To close, I introduce two beloved plant allies, Tulsi and Rose, and share how these herbs can become part of a daily ritual that helps us reconnect with the Divine Mother through the body, the senses, and the heart. In this episode we are weaving together a Treasure Map intended to help us: Remember who we are through the practice stillness Looking for medicine keepers and teachers in the people around us Finding the Beloved through the integration of opposites AI, modern culture, and the loss of sacred intermediaries The role of masks and boundaries in spiritual life Love the Earth and our bodies as one in the same And most importantly, my intention is to weave a path toward hope, belonging, and embodied connection. Thank you for joining me on this journey through the elements and the many faces of the Divine Mother.Resources:Study with Me! Before there was prayer, before there was song, before there was language, there was breath. Across ancient traditions, breath and spirit were understood to be one and the same, revealing air as one of the most intimate ways we experience the sacred. 🤝 Share this Video : https://youtu.be/VzCcEMv8xW8 🌿 Subscribe for herbal tips and wellness insights: https://bit.ly/4iRnpyX Drawing from mythology, spirituality, and personal reflection, I explore the goddesses Iris and the Sibyls, the role of sound and transmission in divine communication, and what it means to reclaim the voice in a world that often encourages silence and self censorship. I also reflect on the wounds of the air element, from environmental pollution to the social and spiritual forces that make authentic expression feel increasingly difficult. I introduce the herbs of the episode, Elder and Tulsi, two beloved plants that embody the wisdom of air through their gifts of protection, resilience, clarity, and connection. In this episode I explore: • Breath as the meeting place of spirit and body • The Divine Mother as voice, song, and inspiration • Iris, the Sibyls, and the archetypes of transmission and prophecy • The environmental and spiritual wounds of the air element • Elder and Tulsi as herbal allies of voice and vitality • The arrival of voice as a form of homecoming This episode is an invitation to breathe deeply, trust what wants to be expressed through you, and remember that your voice is not separate from spirit. The Divine Mother sings through birdsong, prayer, wind, poetry, music, and human speech. When we allow ourselves to speak what is true, we become part of that song. In this episode of The Divine Mother Series, I explore fire as an expression of the Divine Mother through the lenses of desire, devotion, and the ancient practice of tending the sacred flame. Drawing from the stories of Hestia, Vesta, Brigid, and the lineage of women who have served as keepers of the hearth across cultures and centuries, I reflect on what happens when our deepest desires are shamed, suppressed, or forgotten. Together, we explore the sacred nature of longing and why the Divine Mother calls us not to extinguish our inner fire, but to tend it with care and devotion. I share how desire can transform into rage when it is denied, how the untended flame can become numbness and exhaustion, and how reclaiming what we truly want is often the first step toward healing. Through mythology, ritual, and personal reflection, this episode invites us to remember that our longing is not a problem to solve but a sacred force that can guide us home. I also explore the ancient tradition of sacred smoke and the herbs that have long been offered to the fire as prayer, including sage, rose, lavender, chamomile, mullein, cinnamon, and frankincense. In this episode I explore: • The Divine Mother as hearth keeper and sacred flame • Desire as a spiritual and creative force • Hestia, Vesta, Brigid, and the lineage of women as fire keepers • Rage, numbness, and the consequences of an untended fire • Sacred smoke rituals and herbal allies for devotion • How to tend the flame of the soul through daily practice This episode is an invitation to trust what your soul desires, to stop apologizing for what is calling you forward, and to remember that the fire they tried to put out may be the very fire that lights the way home. In this episode, the second in my Divine Mother in Water series, I go somewhere more personal and more tender than the first. I share two near-drowning experiences I had while surfing in Costa Rica, and what happened to my relationship with water afterward, the panic attacks, the years of avoidance, and the long, slow path back to trust. I also hold space for a listener who shared something extraordinary in the comments of the first episode, a woman who witnessed her mother drown as a child and has spent years working to heal her fear of water. Her courage in naming that opened this episode for me 🌿 Subscribe for herbal tips and wellness insights: https://bit.ly/4iRnpyX Water wounds are real, and they run deep. In this talk we explore why trauma involving water can be so particularly stubborn and disorienting, and what the path of healing actually looks like, including the somatic and EMDR work that helped me reclaim my own relationship with water after years of fear. We will also look at the dark aspects of water, and how we can hold both its destructive and healing properties at the same time In this episode we explore: • Why water trauma cuts so deep and how the nervous system holds it differently than other kinds of shock • The slow, non-linear nature of healing water wounds, and why patience and gentleness are not optional • My personal journey from near-drowning to reclaiming swimming, surfing, and a sense of safety in water • Somatic retraining and EMDR as pathways back to the body and back to trust • The role of the divine mother in water healing I also share two flower essences, Star of Bethlehem and White Pond Lily, that I’ve found supportive for those working to heal a difficult relationship with water. This episode is for anyone who has been hurt by water, who carries a fear they don’t fully understand, and for anyone on the long path back to something they loved before it frightened them. In this episode of The Divine Mother Series, I explore water as one of the deepest expressions of the Divine Mother through stories from my recent pilgrimage to Italy, reflections on sacred wells and Marian traditions, and the healing wisdom of rivers, springs, and holy waters. I share how water has long been understood as a source of memory, devotion, prophecy, and healing, weaving together mythology, herbalism, ecology, and nervous system restoration. From the Sacred Madonna traditions of southern Italy to the science of “blue mind,” this episode explores why the feminine divine so often reveals herself through water. 🤝 Share this Video : https://youtu.be/IZ7BP8FRE6U 🌿 Subscribe for herbal tips and wellness insights: https://bit.ly/4iRnpyX I also introduce the herb of the episode, Blue Flag Iris, a powerful medicine of purification, flow, and transformation that teaches us how to move what has become stagnant within us. In this episode I explore: • Sacred wells, pilgrimage, and Marian traditions • Water as memory, oracle, and living intelligence • The healing relationship between water and the nervous system • Blue Flag Iris and the medicine of purification • The qualities of water as expressions of the Divine Feminine This episode offers practical ways to engage with water as daily spiritual practice and to remember that the voice of the mother is still speaking through the living waters of the earth. I hope you find this conversation to be engaging. It is with a most humble heart that I try to explore what they complex archetypes can show us in modern times. In this first episode of The Divine Mother Series, I explore the archetype of the Divine Mother through the power of Earth, place, and sacred sites. I weave in reflections from my recent travels to Italy, encounters with sacred images of the Goddess, and contemplations on hunger, craving, and earth grief in a rapidly changing world. I weave together the symbolism of Mary Magdalene, the Black Madonna, pilgrimage traditions, and personal spiritual practices that help me reconnect with the sacred feminine and remember what has been lost and what still lives within us. 🤝 Share this Video : https://youtu.be/zodsq7MUsjY 🌿 Subscribe for herbal tips and wellness insights: https://bit.ly/4iRnpyX This episode is an invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and rediscover devotion through the body, the land, and the wisdom carried within ancient traditions. I also reflect on the emotional reality of environmental desecration, the longing many of us feel for rootedness and belonging, and how sacred remembrance can become a healing practice in daily life. In this episode I explore: • Earth grief and spiritual disconnection • Mary Magdalene and the Black Madonna traditions • What it means to “sanctify” a place and why holy places “feel” different • Practices for reconnecting with the Divine Mother • Questions to keep you close to the mother in your heart I hope you enjoy this episode and please share your reflections and if anything you heard was helpful in your own spiritual journey. In this episode, I explore what it means to see clearly in a world that often does not want to see. I weave together personal stories of rage and anger and share the story of Cassandra, the woman who was never wrong yet never believed. I will talk about what that pattern feels like in the body and in everyday life. Living in the suburbs, raising children, and moving through a culture that feels disconnected from the earth, I speak honestly about the tension of holding truths that are not always welcomed. 🤝 Share this Video : https://youtu.be/ILsrSZreMjk 🌿 Subscribe for herbal tips and wellness insights: https://bit.ly/4iRnpyX We move into the deeper teaching that anger is not a problem to fix but a message to listen to. Through the story of Demeter and my own experiences, I reflect on what our anger might be asking of us and how we can begin to work with it instead of pushing it away. Alongside these stories, I share three plant allies that support this process: - Blue Vervain for the nervous system that is holding too much - Black Cohosh for diving into the subterranean subconscious and ancestral patterns of darkness and rage - Dandelion for helping the body move and transform anger into something life giving. Sky House Herb School Website: https://www.skyhouseherbs.com/ I also introduce the Black Madonna as a symbol of the dark knowing feminine, the one who has sat in grief and come through with clarity and strength. I also share some practical ways you can sit with your own darkness and “basement material” to see what your anger is trying to tell you. This episode is an invitation to return to yourself in small, tangible ways. To sit with what you know. To honor what you feel. And to begin the healing process from within. If you are someone who feels deeply, sees clearly, and is learning how to live with both, this space is for you.
