ReImagine Photography

Today I want to talk about photography in terms of reality, art, politics and Susan Sontag. Sontag was a writer and critic who wrote a lot about culture and photography during the 1970s. She had some sharp observations on the art of photography and I share a few of those quotes here, and how they have inspired me. *** Find me online for the Photo Zine, my images and tours, or search for me on YouTube where I post gear reviews and photo essays: https://ewenbell.com/ #EwenTube #Photography #StreetPhotography #PhotographyVlog #ReImaginePhotography

This episode began with the idea of how we keep working at our craft even though we might not yet be very good at it. Because the only way to get better is to keep going. But sometimes in life we need to stop and take stock, and ask ourselves "Are we any good at this?" *** Find me online for the Photo Zine, my images and tours, or search for me on YouTube where I post gear reviews and photo essays: https://ewenbell.com/ #EwenTube #Photography #StreetPhotography #PhotographyVlog #ReImaginePhotography

Some thoughts today on why perfection is over rated and why we don't ncessarily benefit from focusing on what is the "right" way to do something, or which bit of kit is the "best". *** Find me online for the Photo Zine, my images and tours, or search for me on YouTube where I post gear reviews and photo essays: https://ewenbell.com/ #EwenTube #Photography #StreetPhotography #PhotographyVlog #ReImaginePhotography

This podcast episode is an audio verison of my recent YouTube video, but it definitely works just as audio. It was recorded as a very long chat to help beginners find a path forward with photography. It's also proved popular with experienced photographers as well though, and I hope you will enjoy a walk in the park or a nice pot of tea to share with this discussion. You can find the YouTube version here if you want to see some of the photos too: https://youtu.be/x480fxJoFlw *** Find me online for the Photo Zine, my images and tours, or search for me on YouTube where I post gear reviews and photo essays: https://ewenbell.com/ #EwenTube #Photography #StreetPhotography #PhotographyVlog #ReImaginePhotography

What happens when you finally get off subscription pricing? What is life like in a post-Adobe world? The biggest fear people have about changing their editing software is not being able to go back and access all that work they have already put into the file. We're hanging onto the possibility of going back to our old edits, instead of looking forward to new possibilities. This episode was originally recorded for my YouTube channel, but it's a good fit for this podcast too. Reminder that my discount code for DxO PhotoLab is "EWENBELL15". When I started looking, the cupboard was bare, except for one group on the far reaches of Melbourne's suburbs. There's nothing easy about choosing a freelance life as a photographer. But for me the rewards definitely outweigh the challenges. I've made it through 25 years of being self-employed, and it turns out that my ADHD Brain has been a big part of making this gig work. * My Newsletter: https://ewenbell.com/subscribe * My Photography Advice: https://ewenbell.com/blog * Podcast Version: https://ewenbell.com/podcast #EwenTube #Photography #YouTube #PhotographyVlog #ReImaginePhotography #Nordlys #Auroras #NorthernLights

Capturing the Northern Lights is a very technical photography experience. You'll be facing challenging conditions and sometimes things will go wrong. Sometimes it's better to plan for fun instead of planning for perfection. Social media has changed the way we consume photography as an art form, and not necessarily for the better. YouTube as a medium for exhibiting your photos, and creating an experience for others to enjoy photography is my personal favourite right now. As mentioned in the video, here's my favourite YouTube that I posted about Penguins at Macquarie Island :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKmKZJCHWJM * My Newsletter: https://ewenbell.com/subscribe * My Photography Advice: https://ewenbell.com/blog * Podcast Version: https://ewenbell.com/podcast #EwenTube #Photography #YouTube #PhotographyVlog #ReImaginePhotography

Some folks think professionals must know a whole bunch of shortcuts to make photography easier. While it's true we tend to work smarter, not harder, we still have to put in the work. And there are tangible benefits to taking the high road instead of the shortcuts. * My Photography Advice: https://ewenbell.com/blog * My Newsletter: https://ewenbell.com/subscribe #EwenTube #Photography #CreativeVsReactive #PhotographyVlog #ReImaginePhotography
