Angry Algorithms Episode 243: Chicken Tenders, Backstage Trespassing & Flyers Misery It’s Halloween season, the Flyers are playing like they’ve already been eliminated, and somehow Bill is having the best week of his life. Welcome to Episode 243 of Angry Algorithms, where a free ticket hookup turns into a poultry distribution operation, a Sturgill Simpson concert becomes an accidental trespassing adventure, and the Stanley Cup makes a surprise appearance in South Jersey. We’ve got enough Chickie’s and Pete’s food to feed an entire NHL roster, a backstage excursion that definitely wasn’t on the itinerary, and Bill casually convincing strangers he’s a celebrity because Lou Nolan knows his name. Meanwhile, the Flyers are busy reminding everyone why hope is a dangerous and deeply unhealthy emotion. The boys break down the state of the Orange and Black, debate whether last year’s playoff run was actually a curse, and try to figure out how a professional hockey team can have approximately 47 bottom-six forwards and not a single legitimate top-line center. Plus, the Stanley Cup gets a South Jersey field trip, former Flyers would apparently rather be drinking than signing autographs, and we discover that the only thing more disappointing than the Flyers’ roster is their ability to capitalize on a good opportunity. Crank up the Alice in Chains, grab a bucket of tendies, and prepare for another episode of hockey rage, questionable decisions, and unsolicited opinions delivered with absolutely zero qualifications. Angry Algorithms: We’re not saying we could run the Flyers better. We’re just saying we couldn’t possibly do worse.
The Angry Algorithms are back, and somehow Episode 242 manages to cover everything from a dog pissing all over a bed to the Flyers finding new and exciting ways to make everyone miserable. We kick things off with an absolutely unbelievable story involving Jimmy Six, a giant pit bull, home wound care, and one very unfortunate bedroom accident. From there, we check in on the rapidly improving Pod Squad hockey standings, celebrate a new father, offer condolences to a longtime listener, and somehow end up debating whether Texas Roadhouse serves “real food.” Then things get considerably more serious as we discuss protests in France and Northern Ireland, government corruption, the Epstein files, and why the hosts think Americans have become far too willing to sit back and take it. And then, of course, there's Philadelphia sports. The Flyers are off to a rough start, and the guys have plenty to say about Rick Tocchet's system, the organization's refusal to truly tear things down, the lack of superstar talent, and whether Philadelphia has any chance of attracting elite players like Quinn Hughes. The Eagles aren't exactly spared either, as Lane Johnson's family situation leads to a discussion about the Eagles' organization and what it means to have an owner who actually gives a shit. Finally, the conversation takes a nostalgic turn as the guys reminisce about the Spectrum — Flyers games, Sixers games, wrestling, concerts, monster trucks, Rocky, scalpers, dangerous stairways, and the general glory of a building that was objectively a dump but somehow remains one of Philadelphia's most beloved sports memories. Oh, and yes… we somehow say “meat stop” about 47 times. Episode 242 is angry, inappropriate, nostalgic, sports-obsessed, and exactly what you'd expect from the Angry Algorithms.
The boys are back, and this week we’re taking a questionable trip deep into the heart of Texas — where the beaches are beautiful, the water is absolutely disgusting, dead fish are floating around, and apparently nobody has any problem leaving empty liquor bottles in the sand. After discovering the Redneck Riviera, the crew heads to Margaritaville for some drinks, hockey updates, and what may or may not have been an accidental introduction to the RV campground swinger lifestyle. Was it actually a swingers resort? Was it just the free-spirited camping community? Or was somebody simply too drunk to know what the hell they were looking at? Then it’s off to Buc-ee’s, where everything is bigger, including the selection of merchandise nobody asked for. Coffee? Sure. Brisket? Maybe. Five-pack of Buc-ee’s underwear? Absolutely not. Although a $64 Texas Longhorns shirt almost makes the purchase list for the sole purpose of trolling some Ohio State fans. Back home, the AHL delivers another week of hockey chaos, including a 14-13 barn burner, a questionable attempt at a surprise visit, a field crew apparently consisting of an entire neighborhood armed with blowers and squeegees, and one very confused guy who showed up to a canceled game anyway. And finally, we dive into the Mylec Cup, the National Ball Hockey League championship weekend in Gloucester Township — including why one of the officials mysteriously didn't make the official referee photo and how somebody somehow managed to work 18 games over the weekend. Texas. Buc-ee's. Swingers. Hockey. Dead fish. And an unnecessary amount of Buc-ee's underwear.
This week, the crew gathers to process a series of questionable life choices and minor head traumas. Bill details his pilgrimage to Virginia Beach for a free, 25-minute single-song jam session by Green Sky Bluegrass, a late-night encounter with a oddly recognizable local, and a violent collision with a low-hanging soffit that nearly ended it all. Also on the docket: Hot Tub Physics: Establishing strict protocol so nobody gets cooked. Nostalgia & Puck Dropping: Local '90s trivia debates and the official start of the AHL season. South Philly Showdown: Previewing the high-stakes, maximum-chaos 8th Annual Frenchy Cup.
We are back! Listen!
This week, we attempt to solve all the world's biggest problems—from the FIFA World Cup to the ongoing mystery of why soccer refuses to stop the clock. Along the way, we celebrate Nut's daughter winning a national championship, break down the latest NHL news, and try to figure out whether the Sixers are making moves toward contention... or just keeping everyone guessing. We also ask the question Philly fans have been asking for years: Could LeBron James somehow end up wearing a Sixers jersey? Then we give Team USA Ball Hockey the championship celebration they deserve before Jim launches into a completely unsolicited (but surprisingly passionate) rant about gender reveal parties. We wrap things up by wondering why FIFA decided Philadelphia wasn't worthy of hosting Team USA. Sports, hot takes, questionable opinions, and a few laughs—just another day at the office.
