It’s a show! It’s a podcast! It’s a conversation baby, and it’s all about the video games! It’s all made possible by our wonderful community, and the DayOne Show Episode 324 is live and on demand for your earholes and eyeholes in glorious 4K! To kick things off this week, we’re pleased to see Nick return from his month long holiday in Greece, and we spend a little time discussing his adventures in Europe, and his new-found appreciation for how hot it can get over here. Before long, we of course turn our eyes on video games, and the star of the show this week is absolutely Halo: Campaign Evolved , which is available now if you fancy forking out for the fancy premium edition which comes with 5 days Early Access. We talk a lot about Halo, and delve into topics linked to remakes, reviews and for some reason, a brief but amusing tangent on Christopher Nolan movies. This week saw Microsoft jangle those keys once again, as they announced Xbox Backwards Compatibility for PC . Right now, it’s just four games – BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded. Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Fuzion Frenzy with more planned as the program matured. Then, to make folks mad again, Xbox went and announced an ad-supported tier for Xbox Game Pass . The long-rumored free tier is now available for testing with Xbox insiders. Each session begins with an advertisement of undetermined length, with each ad giving you one hour of playtime, similar to the limit on the Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition. Is it a slippery slope or not a big deal? You decide! On the Sony side of things, the silence following their announcement ending physical discs for PlayStation games , Circana’s Matt Piscatella took to social media to provide some data , got attacked for it, so supplied even more data . Suffice to say, it looks like the numbers just don’t make sense for Sony. On the plus side, we’ve got a new story trailer for Wolverine , and a release date for God of War Laufey . And don’t worry, if you were pining for more Kratos, Cory Balrog has said the next God of War title will focus on Kratos again . As we get to the halfway point of July, we're all dealing with the fallout of the Xbox cuts, and of course, there's plenty of videogames we've played and reviewed. All this and more in the DayOne Show Episode 323! As always, we kick off the show talking through all the games we've been playing, and as you'll see, we've been playing a LOT of games. We've got reviews from Jesse for Denshattack! which channels the Dreamcast era with ease and has been received very positively across the world as it releases on all platforms and Game Pass. If you were a fan of The Alters, we've also got a review for the new DLC - The Last Variable , which is really good. But that's not all! Our review for D-Topia is now available, a cute, narrative puzzler from Annapurna. It’s got some surprisingly dark themes, but it’s also sadly, a little dull. Next up, we’ve got Kaz , a blisteringly fast arcade roguelike where you use your cursor keys to play a digital whack-a-mole of sorts. It’s cute, has a banging soundtrack, and is well worth picking up on PC. We've also got a review in progress for co-op cosmic horror extraction game The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu and if you're after a great twin-stick shooter, you should absolutely check out Pathogenic , a woefully overlooked twin-stick shooter where you play a disease and upgrade your self on a cellular level as you make your way through the human body to kill your host. Beyond that we dig into all the news of the week, which mostly deals with the fallout of Microsoft's savage Xbox cuts. Following tons of reports, leaks and rumors, Bethesda have just come out and admitted what's going on and shares a huge update on what's next for franchises like The Elder Scrolls, Starfield and Fallout. The latter game series gets the spotlight, with confirmed remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, along with the confirmation that Obsidian Entertainment once again return to the wasteland as they officially begin work on a new project in the Fallout universe. Beyond that we talk about id Software , the confirmed new direction for Xbox as they return to exclusivity and of course answer your community questions in the DayOne Show Episode 323!

It's been a week. The big Xbox 'Reset' is in full swing, but after all the layoffs and studio changes, we're still not really sure on what the plan actually is. Let's discuss what's going on in The DayOne Show Episode 322! This week, we're joined by the lovely Sam Tolbert, who's starting to feel like a part of the furniture around here! Before we dig into the big topics, we spend some time talking about the games we've been enjoying this week. Jon has been having a wonderful time sailing around the Caribbean in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced , and after 30+ hours with Ubisoft's remade classic, piracy and the open sea remains as addictive and engaging as ever. Jesse took some time to cover new Game Pass addition Ascend to Zero , a new bullet-heaven survivors like game with a pretty unique twist where you can pause time itself. Both Sam and Jesse have been playing Doom The Dark Ages: Revelations , a new campaign-sized DLC for the latest Doom game from id Software. It is unabashedly excellent , and it hurts to see what id Software went through this week considering they've made something so genuinely fantastic. Oh yeah - that's right. In spite of how great games are, and how many great games there are, this week saw the next great big 'Xbox Reset' kick-in . 3200 roles are being eliminated, with multiple studios affected . Obsidian are working on Fallout , id Software are moving forward after the cuts, and we've yet to see what else is going to happen. Xbox bid goodbye to Undead Labs and Ninja Theory , who will have new owners, and Compulsion Games and Double Fine , who are returning to independence. We also await with a decent amount of uncertainty to see what happens with Arkane Lyon, who are also being moved on from Xbox, and are going through a consultation process. Suffice it to say, this week has been all kinds of awful, and rather than give everyone another blow-by-blow of all the headlines, we thought we would take a different approach with things. We wanted to zoom out and ask the big questions - after all of this turmoil, it's not yet clear to us what Xbox actually want to achieve? Is it truly bringing consoles back into focus? Are they really willing to make that enormous financial investment - and loss - to sell Xbox console again? There's a huge number of unknowns, and we dive into these topics for a general, roundtable conversation. Of course, the community will have their say too!

Ahead of what's likely to be one of the most brutal weeks for the video game industry, the boys gather once more to talk about what we've been playing, the latest in news and of course, the biggest topic - the death of physical games media. All this and more in The DayOne Show Episode 321! Before we dig into the news, we of course tackle the latest games we've been playing, and for the most part, none of us can go into too much detail, as everything we are playing is embargoed until a later date. Nick has been continuing to plug away on Star Fox , and Jesse got to take a look at Doom The Dark Ages: Revelations ahead of it's availability next week when he'll be playing for review. Jon is working on multiple reviews across both hardware and software - we've got incoming write-ups and verdicts for a new soundbar, the Creative Stage Pro, as well as going hands on with the NEX Playground and an ASUS Laptop with a built-in dual screen set up. On the software side of things, 30+ hours have been spent in an upcoming game we can't talk about yet, as well reviewing some of the titles he played during Steam Next Fest . What he can talk about of course, is Meccha Chameleon , which has today confirmed having sold 15 Million copies. The broader DayOne team have reviews up for EA Sports College Football 27 , Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes VS Villains and a preview for Rain98 , so go check them out! In spite of the looming layoffs and potential studio closures at Xbox, it's been PlayStation that's been leading the news cycle this week. In case you missed it, a new blog post confirmed closures of both PS3 and PS Vita's digital stores , but there was a much larger controversy. As of January 2028, PlayStation physical discs will no longer be produced . This is widely regarded as a death blow for physical games media and there's plenty of debate to be had. On the Xbox side of things, plenty of reports across a variety of subjects to dig into - ahead of the layoffs on July 6th, Obsidian got mixed into the reporting via a piece from The Game Business and Chris Dring, before Bloomberg's Jason Schrier came out to debunk it. Leadership changes have been spotted at Arkane Lyon , which sees one of the leads for MachineGames step into a leadership role at the studio. What an absolutely crazy week in video games - and honestly, not really in a good way. Yes, we got Grand Theft Auto VI details, and the Steam Machine was finally dated, but everything else was not so great. Let's get into it in The DayOne Show Episode 320! Jon, Jesse and even Nick - who tunes in to join us from his holiday in Greece - break down all this week's new, but before that as always, we dive into what we've been playing. Y'know, the fun thing that we're all here for. We've got a review from Nick on Nintendo's Star Fox , available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 - and hey, it's pretty good if you like Star Fox 64! Fingers crossed we see more from the franchise. Elsewhere, Jon dived into a ton of new Steam Next Fest demos, and came away with some more games to play this year. Jesse has been on a run of different games this week across reviews and previews. From the brine-punk world of Abyssus , rebuilding houses in House Flipper Remastered , making the enemy pay in Devil May Cry 5 on Switch 2 or taking on the world in Dark Scrolls , there's sort of something for everyone. On the preview front, Jesse checked out a couple of levels in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy , amd the lovely Kat played an hour of Star Wars Galactic Racer - which is looking great! Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally fully locked in. Pre-orders are live and the two editions have been detailed , with Sony touting that the game plays best on PS5 . Sony have finally begun what had long been rumored, with legendary development studio Bungie suffering huge layoffs and the studio head stepped down , per reports. Xbox put their consoles on sale across the US , before announcing yet another price increase that shocked players . With this weekly likely bringing layoffs and potential studio closures across the Xbox organisation, it seems to have already begun in some form with Compulsion Games . Still, a relatively positive story dropped via Entertainment Weekly, as Xbox detailed their film and TV ambitions. Gears of War , Sea of Thieves and more are getting movies, and Kojima teased a little more from OD , so that's exciting! And lastly, Steam Machines reviews have landed - alongside the final pricing for this compact PC - and surprise, it's pretty expensive . I think we're all experiencing a little whiplash. After an incredible Summer Game Fest full of fantastic gaming shows and reveals, we now have a week full of potential closures, companies potentially being spun off, and others looking to go indie again. Let's break it all down in The DayOne Show Episode 319! This week, the lovely Nick is on holiday in Greece, so we're reinforced by the lovely Sam Tolbert from Campaign Mode (yes, you should go subscribe) to talk through all the going's on in gaming this week. Before we get into all the drama, we of course have to acknowledge all the games we've been playing or recently previewed. From the surprisingly lovely Junkster to the horniness of Hellraiser Revival , there's probably a little something for everyone this week to check out. Jesse has reviews for The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales , Dave the Diver: In the Jungle and Thank You For Your Application as well previews for Erosion , Bad Magpie , Hot Wheels Infinite Rush and Join Us - suffice it to say, there's plenty to go watch and read! Beyond games of course, there's lots of news to dive into. Xbox and their big reset has been the leading topic of discussion on the internet this week, with lots of rumours of studio closures, and Xbox reportedly knowing they were looking to close or sell Ninja Theory even as they announced and revealed Senua during the showcase. PlayStation has also been in the news, from updates on their new AI policies, layoffs coming in for Bungie and new ports of some Call of Duty Black Ops classics . In addition, there was heaps of drama around Halo Campaign Evolved, with a new FAQ seeming to indicate that PS+ would be required for split-screen play . Turns out, that it was just an error , so that was a whole heap of drama about nothing!
