After a decade of coaching thousands of voice actors, Marc keeps running into the same obstacle above all others: time. Everyone knows what they should be doing to market their business. Almost nobody feels like they have the hours to do it. In this solo episode, Marc reframes the whole problem with one question: what can you do in 15 minutes? He makes the case that the real productivity killer isn't a lack of time - it's the all-or-nothing mindset. We tell ourselves that if we can't sit down for a dedicated hour, it isn't worth starting, so we do nothing at all. And those 15-minute pockets we do have get lost to doom scrolling, a quick game, or one more episode. Marc walks through exactly what he gets done in those small windows - a couple of meaningful LinkedIn comments, one introductory email researched and sent, a single social post, a handful of connection requests, a follow-up with a prospect who went quiet. None of it takes an hour. All of it moves the needle. If time has always been the thing standing between you and a consistent marketing habit, this is the baby step that actually works. The summer series is over, and Marc spent a lot of it away from the office - resetting, thinking, and figuring out where his voiceover business goes from here. This has been an unusual year. AI hit his business hard, e-learning work he counted on disappeared, and he made a deliberate choice to step back from coaching and get back to voiceover. In this solo episode, he shares the five things he keeps coming back to - the ones he's rebuilding his own business around heading into Q4. He gets into why you can't measure what you don't track, and the handful of numbers he now keeps in front of him every single week. Then he flips it around: why most voice actors are tracking the wrong metrics entirely, and which ones actually matter. From there it's AI search - why being found in ChatGPT and Claude may now matter more than being found on Google, and why we're all starting from close to zero. He talks about creating content with real purpose instead of posting for the sake of it, and why the competition left standing is tougher than the crowd that's thinning out. Plus a bonus he swore he wouldn't admit out loud: the niche he thinks he may have quietly found for himself - and the question of whether you can build a moat of your own. If you're figuring out how to finish the year strong, this one's for you. Marc spent nearly a decade away from Voices.com. Then, in July, he decided to give the platform another shot. Six weeks later, he had questions. In this episode of the Everyday VOpreneur Podcast, Marc is joined by Gina Scarpa, one of the top-booking voice actors on Voices.com, for a deep dive into how the platform actually works and how voice actors can get more from it. Originally recorded during Free Advice Friday, this conversation covers everything from profile optimization and search results to auditions, shortlists, algorithms, bookings, rates and more. Gina explains why getting to a 100% VoiceMatch should be one of your first priorities, how clips impact your visibility in search, what actually happens when a client receives your audition, and why you shouldn’t be afraid to submit for opportunities that fit. They also dig into some of the mistakes voice actors make on the platform, including poorly optimized clips, misunderstanding statistics, archiving completed auditions, and automatically rejecting jobs because of perpetuity language without asking questions first. Plus, Marc shares what he’s learned during his first six weeks back on Voices.com, how the experience compares with Voice123, and why his opinion of the platform is beginning to change. If you’re already using Voices.com, thinking about joining, or wondering why you’re paying for a membership but not seeing results, this episode will help you better understand the game you’re playing and how to play it smarter. Paul Vinger calls it "the unbearable awkwardness of marketing." He's an in-person guy - he connects easily face to face - but online, reaching out cold to total strangers still feels off. His question for Marc: where are the signposts that tell you you're going in the right direction, and what are the potholes to steer away from? In this Summer Series episode, Marc breaks down why the awkwardness is usually a signal - not a flaw in your approach, but a clue that something in your chain needs attention. They cover why targeting the right people removes most of the awkwardness before you even write a word, why personalization isn't about knowing deep intimate secrets - it's about showing you did five minutes of homework, and why the copy-paste test is the fastest way to know if your email is actually personal. Marc also gets into the confidence factor - how your internal narrative about your own demos and abilities shows up in your marketing whether you realize it or not, and why the voice actors who send the most emails are usually the ones who feel best about what they're offering. Plus: what it looks like when you flip the script on negative responses, why one angry reply from a hundred emails shouldn't change your strategy, and why the awkwardness tends to disappear when you genuinely believe you can solve someone's problem. If marketing feels awkward, that's information. Here's what to do with it. Ryan Benes just retired from the Marine Corps after 22 years, and for the first time in his career, he has real time to invest in voiceover. His question for Marc: when you go from a few hours a week to full-time, where do you put that time so it actually moves the needle? In this Summer Series episode, Marc breaks down how to approach the full-time VO transition, what to keep doing, what to shift, and what to watch out for. They dig into the perpetual preparation trap, why already being bookable with limited time is an important signal, and when it might be time to shift some of your training dollars from coaching to getting in front of agents. Marc also shows Ryan how to mine his past bookings for clues about where future work could come from, turn his military and aviation background into a competitive advantage, improve his email marketing in the age of AI, and use LinkedIn and booking data to find more of the right prospects. Plus, there's an important warning for any voice actor going full-time: when casting sites are already working, it's easy to give them all your newfound time at the expense of building a direct client base you actually own. And ultimately, going full-time isn't about filling 40 hours. It's about using those hours intentionally. If you did this with 10 hours a week, imagine what 40 can do. Rod Gonzalez is a bilingual voice actor working in both English and Spanish - and he's got three questions. Does it matter if you're the 51st person to submit on Voices.com? What are the real ingredients for a winning audition? And do any of these rules apply the same way in the Spanish market? In this Summer Series episode, Marc breaks down how Voices.com actually works, what the voice match score algorithm really means, and why the number you submit in line is far less important than most voice actors think. Inside this episode: Voice match score - what it is, why 100% is your primary goal, and how it determines where you appear in the client's list Submission order - when it matters, when it doesn't, and why submitting late is almost always still worth it The budget question - why bidding lower doesn't give you the advantage most people assume, and the value perception behind higher quotes What's actually booking right now - why listening to what makes it to air beats any other research Going wide between your takes - especially when the spec is confusing or contradictory Why you shouldn't always lead with your safe take first Lead-ins before recording - how a simple throwaway line drops you into a completely different headspace The Spanish market in the US - where bilingual talent gets an edge and how to find out what's booking Every audition as a rep - the mindset that makes submitting worthwhile even when you don't book Whether you're on Voices.com, Voice123, or just looking to sharpen your audition game, this one has practical takeaways you can use right away. 🎧 Subscribe to the VOpreneur Podcast on your favourite podcast platform - Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen - so you never miss an episode. Terry Briscoe is five years into his voiceover career and starting to see real momentum. His question for Marc: what do you do next? How do you take that leap from where you are to the next level? In this Summer Series episode, Marc gets honest about his own leveling-up process - including the year he booked zero agent jobs, the hot seat session that left him beat red in front of 121 people, and the mindset shift that led to four national bookings in the first quarter of 2026. Cameron Pister has been working her CRM leads through a full sequence and getting no response. Her question for Marc: what do you do when someone goes through your entire follow-up cycle without ever getting back to you? Do you start them over? Find a new contact? Or just let them go? In this Summer Series episode, Marc walks through his exact strategy for handling dormant leads - and explains why his nine-year personal record from first contact to booking is proof that giving up too soon is one of the most expensive mistakes a voice actor can make. Inside this episode: Why a lead who goes through your entire sequence without unsubscribing is probably still interested - and what that means for how you treat them Marc's dormant lead strategy - what it looks like, when to use it, and how to set it up in your CRM When to try a secondary sequence vs. when to find a different contact at the same company Why you should never delete a lead from your CRM, even after years of silence The mindset shift that makes following up feel less like pestering and more like good business How Marc used nine-year-old leads to kickstart momentum when a new commercial demo landed Why segmenting your CRM opens up follow-up opportunities that have nothing to do with voiceover pitches How social media can pick up where email leaves off - and why LinkedIn comments have turned into audition opportunities Whether you're sitting on a list of leads that haven't responded in months or you're brand new to CRM outreach, this episode gives you a clear and practical framework for staying in the game longer than your competition. 🎧 Subscribe to the VOpreneur Podcast on your favourite podcast platform - Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen - so you never miss an episode. Spending $2,000–$3,000 on a voiceover demo is one of the biggest investments a voice actor can make, and one of the easiest to get wrong. In this episode, Marc Scott shares five red flags that should stop you from signing on the dotted line with the wrong demo producer, drawn from his own recent experiences working with J. Michael Collins and the Demo Dream Team. Inside this episode: 👉🏻 Why one-size-fits-all demo packages are almost always a red flag (and what to look for instead) 👉🏻 How to identify a demo producer you can genuinely trust (and why trust directly impacts the quality of your final demo) 👉🏻 What a truly collaborative process looks like from day one (and why generic scripts produce generic demos) 👉🏻 Why being directable in the session isn't weakness (it's how you get a demo that actually books work) 👉🏻 The non-negotiable: working with a producer who will accept your feedback before you sign off Marc also shares the story of a One Password spot that made no sense to him in the session, and ended up becoming the source of his very first commercial booking after the demo dropped. Whether you're producing your first demo or updating an existing one, this episode gives you a clear checklist for choosing the right producer and protecting your investment. 🎧 Subscribe to the VOpreneur Podcast on your favorite podcast platform — Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen — so you never miss an episode. Want to use AI in your voiceover business without giving up control of how you sound, how you write, or how clients see you? In this episode of the VOpreneur Podcast, Marc Scott shares the framework that keeps his AI use sustainable: treat AI like an employee, not the boss. Then he walks through five practical ways voice actors can put AI to work — saving time, saving money, and getting found by more clients, even with zero technical background or SEO budget. Inside this episode: - How to drop your raw Google Analytics data into ChatGPT for a plain-English breakdown of what's working on your website (and what isn't) - The same shortcut applied to Google Search Console — and why it's the fastest way to learn which keywords are actually driving traffic to your VO website - What SEO and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) mean for voice actors — and how to position yourself to show up when buyers search inside ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini - The right way to use AI as a writing assistant for marketing emails so they still sound like you, not a chatbot - How to use AI as a brainstorming buddy for social media so "I don't know what to post" stops being the reason you don't post Marc also explains why the $20–$30/month investment can pay back significantly when you're a solo voice actor competing against established names with decades of website authority — and why the voice actors who choose to embrace AI now have a ground-floor opportunity in generative engine optimization that won't last forever. Whether you're an experienced voice actor looking to build efficiencies into your business, or a newer VO talent trying to figure out where to start, this episode gives you a clear, no-hype roadmap for putting AI to work — on your terms. 🎧 Subscribe to the VOpreneur Podcast on your favorite podcast platform — Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen — so you never miss an episode. Got a new voice over demo? Or maybe you’ve had one sitting around that you haven’t really done much with? In this episode, Marc breaks down how a single voice over demo can be turned into 50+ pieces of marketing content without overcomplicating the process. Instead of posting your demo once and hoping for results, you’ll learn how to repurpose it into audio, video, and social content that keeps you visible and top of mind for weeks (or even months). Marc walks through his exact strategy for: • Sharing demos across casting platforms and websites • Creating video content from demo audio • Repurposing clips for social media • Reaching out to leads, clients, and agents • Building a long-term content strategy from a single demo Whether your demo is brand new or a year old, this episode will help you get more mileage, more visibility, and more opportunities from the work you’ve already done. If you’re serious about marketing your voice over business more effectively, this is a must-listen.
