Lady! This week, Dr. Dom and Terri expand this year’s theme of community into the members of our community that may be on the margins. Dr. Niki Elliott, a clinical professor and director of the Center for Embodied Equity and Neurodiversity at the University of San Diego’s School of Leadership and Education Sciences and author of Heart-Centered Connections: Seven Essential Skills for Helping Neurodiverse and Marginalized Children Thrive, joins the podcast to discuss the importance of making space for those who are different than us – especially the children in our community. Loving and caring for children living with neurodivergence requires a level of intentionality and self-awareness that is only now becoming mainstream. Some of the skills needed will call for the parents, caregiver, and community member to dig deep into themselves and address their unmet needs so that they can get out of the way and put the needs of the child first. Dr. Niki provides a holistic approach to supporting children with neurodivergence needs and the first step is by offering compassion, not only to the child but also to the caregiver. Lady, you’ll want to tune in for actionable strategies you can begin to incorporate today that will shift your perspective in how you show up for the neurodivergent young people in your life…and, maybe even yourself too! Dr. Niki shares why helping young people train their nervous systems for resilience can help them navigate the world more skillfully. It wasn’t all business this episode! Head over to Patreon for a special Oh You Blatchet! segment with Dr. Niki. She’s spilling the tea about her business and having fun doing so! We’ll catch you there! Need a boost of passion? Lady, are you in control of your life? In today’s throwback episode, Jasmine Green joins Terri and Dr. Dom to share with us how we may not be in alignment with our purpose and steps we can take to get into alignment. No matter how your journey started, as we hear from Jasmine, does not have to be the route you continue to take. The internal experience of the entrepreneur we see is a powerfully vulnerable story and Jasmine shares with us how to transmute our energy. Through visualizations and personal examples we learn concrete steps to manifest the life we deserve. Quote of the Day: "You can only receive what you're actually ready for AND... You will only allow yourself to have what you believe you deserve." - Jasmine P. Green Takeaways: Three phases of Manifestation True manifestation is when you master being it vs wanting it 1. I want it because I recognize what I don’t have 2. Close your eyes and visualize where you want to be ”this is mine” 3. In today’s episode, Dr. Dom and Terri help us understand how we may be dimming our light through real-life examples. Now is the time for us to stop playing small and start “Shining, Shining, Yeah!” Quote of the Day : "Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. There are many factors why the strong friend often gets overlooked when it’s time to be checked on or nurtured, but that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t need or deserve the type of support she gives. Still, the strong friend can be her own worst enemy when it comes to receiving the care and tenderness she actually needs because she’s built a life of identifying silently suffering as a noble endeavor. And, when she finally looked around for who the adult in the room to help her she realized it was her. Terri and Dr. Dom share real-life scenarios where they were thrust into adulthood, gave insight to how they handled those situations, and reflected on what they needed in those moments. The what I wish I had knowns of life are often bittersweet because sometimes without warning you are on a new path with new responsibilities and new expectations from people. It can be…a lot. And, it doesn’t mean that these situations will stop but there are things that you can do to advocate for yourself. Do you know what will make you feel held and supported? Maybe it’s a call from a friend checking in or maybe it’s a hot bath where you can soak and ease your worries. Once you identify what you need practice asking for what you need with the strategies provided in this episode. Lady! We know that not only are we living in interesting, unprecedented times but we’re also just living our regular lives and sometimes life be lifin’. Life is beautiful, abundant, and generous but it can also be raggedy, harsh, and tough. As much as we love being a part of the toolkit that helps keep you uplifted, you know that we always keep it real. That’s why in this week's throwback, Dr. Dom and Terri offer their grounded perspective about how to handle life when life is being a hot, ghetto mess. Adulting is often fun and wonderful. There are days as an adult when ice cream for breakfast is a thing because you’re grown. But, for the days when the laundry is piling up, the bills are due, the internal monologue is putting you through the ringer, the deep pain within is spilling out, you’re sick, or you’re just tired it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and like you’re getting it all wrong. Fear not, Terri and Dr. Dom offer ten truth bombs to help you keep everything in perspective as you get up and figure it out – like you always do! Adulting is often described as a series of responsibilities and actions that one takes to be a functioning member of society. But, this week Dr. Dom and Terri remind you that often adulting is finding the tools to complete those mundane tasks to satisfaction when life doesn’t feel good. So, grab your Cultivating H.E.R. Space latte mug (find it and more in the Cultivating H.E.R. Space shop), fill it with your favorite cozy beverage, and allow this episode to be the warm hug, kiss on the cheek, or pat on the back for getting through the patches when life feels hard. Lady, no matter what’s going on keep your chin up and remember that we’re rooting for you! 10 Things to Remember When Adulting Gets Ghetto 1. Crying doesn’t mean you’re losing — It means you’re releasing 2. You’re not weak — you’re carrying a lot right now 3. Just because you’re alone doesn’t mean you’re not supported 4. It’s okay to miss people who are no longer in your life 5. Your ancestors would be so proud of you 6. It’s normal to grieve the life you thought you’d have by now 7. You are always worthy of love, even when you think you're a mess 8. You’re allowed to rest, even If nothing’s done 9. Your dream isn’t too big — It’s just being built on divine timing 10. Everything is going to be okay — even if it doesn’t look like it yet Quote of the Day: "Adulting is realizing that you have to take charge of your life, even when it's hard." – Unknown Goal Map Like a Pro Workbook Cultivating H.E.R. Hey lady! Have you ever been accused of being stuck-up, shy, rude, or flat-out a b*tch and you were simply existing? Other people’s projections land on you and suddenly you have a reputation for being anti-social or awkward while anxiety is beating your butt and you’re doing your best not to show it. Or, maybe you’re the one pre-emptively judging someone for their demeanor, creating stories about why they are behaving they way they are without pausing and finding a neutral space from which to observe the interaction. This week, Dr. Dom and Terri show some love to the socially selective, the socially anxious, and the downright awkward among us so that we can understand these relational dynamics and hopefully offer more compassion to ourselves and others. Why? Because we’re all doing life for the first time and we do not all have the answers but we can make the effort to help each other along the way. Have you noticed that certain situations trigger fight, flight, freeze, or fawn responses from you? Dr. Dom offers an actionable toolkit to help you navigate those scenarios so you can enter spaces skillfully. And, Terri offers perspective about how you can give yourself grace because it is quite possible that you are reading the room accurately and acting perfectly appropriately even if other people misunderstand your behavior. Terri and Dr. Dom share their real-world experiences and how they’ve been able to adapt to situations while also identifying when they’ve personalized a situation without enough data or proper context. Lady, doing that can cause unforced errors in an otherwise fruitful potential relationship, so do yourself a favor, head over to the Cultivating H.E.R. Space shop, grab your journal and spend some time with the reflection questions offered in this episode. Hey lady! This week Dr. Dom and Terri discuss a touchy but necessary subject – how to deal with the office bully, especially when the office bully looks like you. By now we all know that being a mean girl is wack, late, and played out, but it is still a reality for some people in the office. So, how do you, as a grown woman with tools and skills, deal with those sticky, tricky, and often nuanced situations where the mean girl is trying to make you feel a way? Terri and Dr. Dom offer a few scenarios, from their lived and witnessed experiences, of how these experiences play out and how they can seriously impact your wellbeing. The good news is that there are strategies to deal with challenging work situations. So, when the skinfolk at your job are not acting like kinfolk, charge it to the game but keep your eyes open. How, you may ask? Tap in for a few tools for self-reflection and self-assessment so you can be aware of when that energy is coming at you, or when you are the energy that needs to be corrected. Life is good...like REALLY good. In fact, it’s LIT. You’re “blessed and highly favored.” To the casual observer, everything on the outside appears to be wonderful. But on the inside...you feel empty. Lady, is this you? If so, you may be experiencing depression. What we know for sure is that ALL of us will experience symptoms of depression related to many normal life events like a relationship breakup, grief over a loss, or other stressors.
