Grab your crucifix and run for the hills, because Ken Russell’s legendary 1971 holy-terror freakout, The Devils, has finally crawled out of the censor's vault and hit theaters in its glorious, unrated, decades-forbidden glory. Starring Vanessa Redgrave as a sexually repressed, deeply unhinged nun and Oliver Reed as a swaggering priest who loves sin way too much, this unhinged cinematic acid-trip tells the true-ish story of a 17th-century French town losing its collective mind over witchcraft and mass hysteria. In this episode, we're diving headfirst into the blasphemous, wildly theatrical chaos that terrified movie studios so badly they tried to bury it for over thirty years—and why this glorious middle finger to (every) establishment still rules today. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a 2003 steampunk superhero flick that pulls characters from the first volume of Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's comic series - though honestly, the plot goes off in its own direction and barely resembles the source material. Stephen Norrington (of Blade fame) directed it from a screenplay by comic book and sometime-screenplay writer James Dale Robinson, and the cast includes Sean Connery, Peta Wilson, Naseeruddin Shah, Tony Curran, Stuart Townsend, Shane West, Jason Flemyng, and Richard Roxburgh. It's notable for being Connery's last role in a theatrically released live-action movie before he retired in 2006 (he passed away in 2020). Trevor Jones handled the score.
