Are you ready for the next massive leap in regenerative aesthetics? In this episode of Beauty Bytes , I am joined by Dr. Samuel Lynch, the founder and CEO of Lynch Regenerative Medicine and a translational scientist who has spent 30 years pioneering tissue regeneration. We dive deep into the science of Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) and his groundbreaking product, Ariessence. Dr. Lynch explains why PDGF remains the only single, pure growth factor to receive FDA approval—achieving this milestone four times across various medical applications, including the treatment of severe diabetic foot ulcers. We discuss why pharmaceutical-grade PDGF is exponentially more reliable than traditional Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), delivering a pure, consistent dose that is 1,000 to 300,000 times more concentrated than the unpredictable platelets harvested from a patient's own blood. PDGF acts as the body's ultimate wound-healing molecule, stimulating the production of collagen types 1, 3, and 6, natural hyaluronic acid, elastin, and new blood vessels. We also tackle the recent social media controversies surrounding off-label use head-on. Dr. Lynch shares two massive announcements: the completion of a real-world evidence study showing zero serious adverse events across 3,000 treatments, and the FDA's approval of an Investigational New Drug (IND) application to begin a Phase 2b clinical trial for injecting PDGF into infraorbital (under-eye) hollows. Plus, we cover their recent clinical trials utilizing PDGF for healing Mohs surgery defects. Guest Information: Dr. Samuel Lynch is the CEO of Lynch Regenerative Medicine. Are you stuck in a vicious "stress flare cycle" where waking up to a new breakout instantly triggers a full-body cascade of anxiety? In this episode of Beauty Bytes , I am joined by Dr. Keira Barr, a double board-certified integrative dermatologist, somatic trauma therapy practitioner, and author of The Skin Whisperer . Dr. Barr completely reframes how we understand the mind-skin connection, explaining that because our skin and nervous system are embryologically linked via the neuroectoderm, the skin actually possesses its own localized HPA axis capable of generating cortisol, adrenaline, and inflammatory messengers. We discuss the profound impact chronic stress has on barrier recovery, sebum production, and collagen degradation, highlighted by a fascinating study revealing that high-hostility married couples healed from blister wounds at only 60% the rate of lower-hostility couples. Dr. Barr introduces the concept of "somatic skincare," challenging us to transform our daily cosmetic regimens from exercises in self-correction and criticism into intentional rituals of connection. By utilizing slow, soothing circular touch, we can stimulate the skin's C-tactile afferent fibers, communicating directly with the emotional regulation centers of the brain to release anti-inflammatory and antioxidant oxytocin. We also explore the critical importance of trauma-informed aesthetic care and simple nervous system regulation practices—like visual "orienting"—to create a felt sense of safety in your everyday life. Guest Information: Dr. Keira Barr is the founder of the Center for Mind and Skin Medicine. You can download her one-minute stress relief guide at drkeirabarr.com or connect with her on Instagram at @drkeirabarr.
Sugar, AGE's, and aging- With Halloween coming up, we're diving into the sweet but often overlooked topic of sugar and its impact on our skin! Explore the process of glycation, a chemical reaction that occurs when sugar molecules bind to proteins in our body, including collagen and elastin. Tune in to uncover the hidden dangers of sugar and what it can do to your skin.
Are you tired of falling for viral skincare trends that lack real scientific evidence? In this episode of Beauty Bytes, I am joined by J.C. Dombrowski, a Cornell-educated marine biologist, cosmetic chemist, and science communicator with nearly 3 million followers on TikTok. We dive deep into the reality of cosmetic chemistry and dismantle some of the most pervasive marketing myths in the beauty industry. J.C. shares his unfiltered, highly scientific perspective on why he believes topical exosomes are currently the biggest farce in skincare, explaining the biological impossibility of characterizing and keeping these complex messengers shelf-stable in a cosmetic formula. We also discuss the truth behind the Korean skincare hype, why the 500 Dalton rule is an over-extrapolated heuristic, and why a $1,200 luxury serum rarely outperforms a simple $10 prescription for tretinoin. Plus, we explore the complexities of claim substantiation, revealing why some "medical-grade" brands actually make the most biologically incoherent claims on the market. Guest Information: J.C. Dombrowski is a science communicator and cosmetic chemist. You can explore his deep dives into biology and skincare on TikTok and Instagram at @jc.dombrowski

Are you relying on synthetic peptides without addressing your body's foundational building blocks? In this episode of Beauty Bytes , I am joined by Dr. Nayan Patel, a pharmacist, researcher, and the founder of Auro Wellness. Dr. Patel is an internationally recognized expert on glutathione and the author of The Glutathione Revolution . We dive deep into why glutathione is the body's master antioxidant, heavily responsible for liver detoxification, and how it is rapidly depleted by environmental smoke and alcohol consumption rather than just aging. Dr. Patel explains why traditional oral supplements and NAC stop meeting your body's glutathione needs after age 35, and how his patented transdermal technology delivers this crucial tripeptide directly into the bloodstream. We also explore the massive trend around GHK-Cu (copper tripeptide), a natural "worker bee" peptide that the body uses for wound healing and tissue repair but rarely prioritizes for facial aesthetics. Dr. Patel shares the astonishing results of his clinical trials, where topically applying copper tripeptide significantly improved skin elasticity, firmness, and sun damage for 100% of participants. Finally, we discuss the dangers of unregulated, non-FDA-approved research peptides, the reason GLP-1 medications are causing severe hair loss due to low stomach acid (hypochlorhydria), and why you might need to start taking Betaine HCl digestive enzymes today. Guest Information: Dr. Nayan Patel is a pharmacist and the founder of Auro Wellness. You can explore his transdermal peptide products at aurowellness.com and listen to his insights on the Vitality Pharmacist podcast.

Are you unintentionally retoxing your body while you sleep? In this episode of Beauty Bytes , I am joined by Helen Christoni, the Chief Business Officer of AirDoctor and AquaTru, to expose the hidden toxic burdens lurking in our everyday environments. We take approximately 20,000 breaths a day, yet indoor air is often deeply contaminated by off-gassing gas stoves, beauty products, and trapped outdoor wildfire smoke containing dangerous VOCs and ammonia. Helen breaks down exactly what to look for in a medical-grade air purifier, explaining why you need a sealed system with a heavy carbon filter that captures particles as small as 0.003 microns—far smaller than a standard HEPA filter. We also dive into the terrifying reality of our municipal water supplies and microplastics. If you are boiling tap water to make pasta or coffee, you are actually concentrating contaminants like arsenic up to three times their original amount! From the necessity of under-sink reverse osmosis systems and shower filters that remove skin-stripping chloramines, to simple swaps like using soy candles and wiping down surfaces instead of vacuuming, Helen teaches us how to apply the 80/20 rule to our environments. By transforming your home into a clean sanctuary, you give your body the foundation it needs to step out into the world from a position of strength. A strong immune system works with your treatments meaning it will amplify results, shorten downtime, and keep your skin vibrant and youthful. Your immune system is your best beauty ally so let’s make sure it’s ready to help you glow this season and beyond.
Hair loss is more than cosmetic—it can dramatically affect confidence, identity, and how we perceive aging. In this episode of Beauty Bytes with Dr. Kay: Secrets of a Plastic Surgeon , I am joined by Dr. Richard Chaffoo, a nationally recognized triple board-certified plastic surgeon with more than 30 years of clinical experience and a special focus on hair restoration and regenerative medicine. We break down what is actually happening inside the hair follicle as hair begins to thin and why early intervention matters before chronic inflammation, miniaturization, and fibrosis permanently compromise the follicle. Dr. Chaffoo walks us through today’s treatment spectrum, from oral minoxidil and finasteride to dutasteride, PRP, microneedling, red-light therapy, and his approach to combined regenerative therapy. We also discuss why hair restoration should go beyond simply prescribing a pill or performing a transplant—and why evaluating scalp health, nutritional deficiencies, hormones, and the biological environment surrounding the follicle is so important. Then we dive into the future of hair science. Dr. Chaffoo shares his experience working with researchers at Stemson Therapeutics to create human hair follicles from pluripotent stem cells and successfully grow human hair in preclinical models. We discuss the possibility of hair cloning, follicle banking, regenerating the entire multicellular hair-follicle niche, and a future where patients may be able to preserve their own follicles or generate new ones rather than relying solely on a limited donor supply. Could hair transplantation eventually become obsolete? From stem-cell-derived follicles to regenerative treatments designed to rescue thinning hair before it is permanently lost, this conversation explores how rapidly the science of hair restoration is evolving—and what may be possible in the decade ahead. Guest Information: Dr. Richard Chaffoo is a triple board-certified plastic surgeon and hair restoration specialist based in Southern California. Are you feeling constantly "wired and tired" or struggling to recover from chronic stress and inflammation? In this episode of Beauty Bytes, I am joined by Dr. Scott Sherr, a board-certified internal medicine physician and a leading specialist in hyperbaric medical oxygen therapy (HBOT). Dr. Sherr is the Chief Medical Officer of Transcriptions and a pioneer in Health Optimization Medicine, a foundational framework that utilizes metabolomics to assess and heal your cellular machinery rather than simply band-aiding disease. We dive deep into the science of hyperbaric therapy, breaking down why varying atmospheric pressures are required depending on whether you are targeting the central nervous system or systemic wounds. Dr. Sherr explains that flooding the body with oxygen creates reactive oxygen species, meaning your mitochondria must be fully optimized with the right antioxidants to actually leverage the benefits of HBOT. We also challenge everything you thought you knew about depression and anxiety, exploring why a deficiency in GABA—your brain's primary inhibitory neurotransmitter—is far more likely to cause your 120,000 racing thoughts a day than a lack of serotonin. Finally, we discuss the incredible benefits of low-dose methylene blue for instantly boosting mitochondrial capacity, and why this compound is particularly transformative for women navigating the steep estrogen and progesterone drops of perimenopause. Guest Information: Dr. Scott Sherr is the Chief Medical Officer of Transcriptions and One Base Health. Earplugs, blindfolds, or milk before bed time-if these can’t help you get a good night’s rest, you might turn to for help. But is this really the best way to solve your sleeping issues? That said, you might want to understand the mechanism behind melatonin before jumping into any impulsive decisions. Tune into this week’s Five Minutes Friday to discover the secrets behind melatonin on the market!
In this episode of Beauty Bytes with Dr. Kay: Secrets of a Plastic Surgeon , I am joined by Dr. Koji Tanabe, a leading stem cell scientist, founder and CEO of iPeace, and one of the researchers behind the landmark development of human induced pluripotent stem cells, or iPSCs. Dr. Tanabe breaks down the science of Yamanaka factors and explains how mature cells can be reprogrammed into a younger, pluripotent state with the ability to develop into many different cell types. We explore how iPSC technology differs from traditional stem cells, PRP, exosomes, and other regenerative treatments, as well as why creating and quality-checking these cells outside the body may offer important advantages over attempting cellular reprogramming directly inside the body. Dr. Tanabe also shares how iPSC-derived cells are being explored in regenerative applications involving heart failure, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury, and other areas of medicine. We dive into the future of personalized cell banking, why he believes it may be beneficial to preserve cells while you are healthy, and how iPSC-derived factors, or iPSF, are being explored for skin rejuvenation, hair restoration, and systemic longevity treatments. The iPSF treatments discussed in this episode are currently available only in Japan and are not available in the United States at this time due to differences in regulatory standards. From cellular aging and DNA mutations to epigenetic clocks, regenerative medicine, and the difference between lifespan and healthspan, this conversation offers a fascinating look at how cellular reprogramming could change the way we approach aging, disease, and the future of personalized medicine. Clarification: During the discussion of iPSC-derived therapies for heart failure, the conversation referenced the possibility of creating patient-specific, autologous iPSC-derived cells. The currently approved application discussed in this episode is allogeneic, not autologous. Dr. Tanabe was referring to the potential for iPSC technology to be developed for personalized autologous applications. Guest Information: Dr. Koji Tanabe is a stem cell scientist and the founder and CEO of iPeace . He spent eight years conducting research at Kyoto University in Nobel laureate Dr. Shinya Yamanaka’s laboratory and was the second author on the landmark 2007 paper describing the generation of human induced pluripotent stem cells.
