The Free Birth Society Podcast features honest, gripping, inspiring, and transformative freebirth stories hosted by the founder Emilee Saldaya in conversation with wild women worldwide. In the vast tapestry of childbirth experiences, a thread runs undisturbed, unmedicated, and true to its ancestral roots: freebirth. This differs from your usual home birth with doulas or midwives in attendance. Freebirth stands apart, where birthing is solely in the hands of the birthing woman, accompanied only by her intuition, rhythms of nature, witnessed by her family. The Free Birth Podcast invites you to a unique corner of the universe where we dive deep into the raw essence of birth, untamed and unassisted. Pushing against the tides of modern obstetrics and its violent approach, we venture into stories of women who've boldly chosen to claim this primal rite of passage. Here, we're not merely sharing tales; we're challenging the status quo and redefining the very narrative of childbirth. As we unravel discussions on rights in childbirth, dissect varied care models, and amplify the unfiltered voices of freebirthing women from around the planet, our purpose remains clear: to spotlight the distinction and significance of wild birth. This isn't an argument against the myriad ways women choose to birth, but rather an affirmation that freebirth has its revered space in the continuum of birth choices. Join us in celebrating a movement that underscores the powerful message and has changed the lives of thousands: Birth, in its purest form, is not a medical event but a profoundly personal journey. The Free Birth Society Podcast is your compass to navigate and rediscover that journey. *Freebirth = Birthing in the absence of any hired professionals, away from medical institutions or their agents. Also known as family birth, unassisted birth, wild birth. *Sovereign birth = Birthing outside of the medical paradigm, inclusive of births with authentic midwives and doulas. We include many stories on the show where women birthed outside of the medical system with doulas and radical birth keepers. While these births are not freebirths, they are certainly sovereign births!

In this deeply honest conversation, Danielle shares the full arc of her journey into motherhood, from a medically managed first birth that left her feeling unprepared and disoriented, to a transformative freebirth experience that changed everything. She opens up about navigating a C-section, postpartum, medicalized motherhood, working in the OR, and the emotional process of undoing old beliefs while preparing for a VBAC and eventually choosing wild pregnancy and freebirth. What unfolds is a powerful story of self-responsibility, healing, and reclaiming trust in the body. Danielle reflects on the support that helped her shift her perspective, the intensity of labor, the beauty of meeting her baby at home, and the complex postpartum emotions that followed. This episode is a moving reminder that growth is not linear, birth is not one-size-fits-all, and every woman’s experience deserves space, honesty, and reverence. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Introducing LEMONADE, my newest training program. This week on the Free Birth Society Podcast, Emilee sits down with Jinny and Audrey , a remarkable mother–daughter duo with sovereign birth woven through both of their lives. Jinny , a mother of seven and birth doula, shares how her third birth became a freebirth when she decided not to return to the hospital after feeling mistreated during labor check-in. Jinny shares the story of her four vaginal breech births, surprise twins, and an unwavering confidence in her body. Audrey , a Radical Birth Keeper graduate and freebirth entrepreneur, assumed that she would never have children. But when she found herself pregnant in her thirties, she quickly opted out of the obstetrical track. After navigating a shocking breech birth in the OR with 18 people watching, followed by an upsetting midwife-attended homebirth, Audrey knew she was ready to claim freebirth from that point on. Together, Jinny and Audrey share stories of breech babies, surprise twins, precipitous birth, and the lessons of sovereignty. Audrey also speaks candidly about navigating backlash and public scrutiny—and how she continues to find the will to keep going. ✨ Start Your Journey: The Complete Guide to Freebirth - Our best-selling, self-paced course for women ready to claim their births on their own terms. Raquel speaks candidly about the profound transitions she navigated during this time. The death of her mother, leaving her job, moving homes, and entering into the work of congruency, boundaries, and privacy. Choosing a wild pregnancy, she hired a Radical Birth Keeper graduate to hold space as she walked this sacred path. She opens up about the challenges she faced postpartum with nursing and her child’s tongue tie, reflecting on what she might do differently now. And she speaks with clarity about her sense of completion after one child, naming that she does not desire more. After six births within the system—including a cesarean at 37 weeks due to partial placenta previa and subsequent hospital abuse—Ashleigh knew she was done. Now a mother of nine and a Radical Birth Keeper School graduate, Ashleigh joins me to share her accumulated wisdom from nearly twenty years of mothering and birthing. We met in person at Matriarch Rising Festival, and in this conversation, we explore what it means to truly live the lessons that birth offers us. We discuss the pros and cons of having children present during birth, what it looks like to honor our evolving faith journeys, and how Ashleigh navigated the tension between her freebirth path and her husband’s discomfort with it. I also challenge Ashleigh’s decision to pull away from her Christian audience, encouraging her to consider what it might mean to let her community see her more deeply. She speaks vulnerably about her own healing from rage and how she now coaches mothers who find themselves lashing out at their children—because she’s been there too. Come listen, learn, and receive from a mother of nine whose story carries the depth and clarity only time, experience, and devotion can bring. ✨ Start Your Journey: The Complete Guide to Freebirth - Our best-selling, self-paced course for women ready to claim their births on their own terms. This week, I am joined by Celia from the Bay Area, California , who shares her journey from birthing with medical midwives and working as a doula, to stepping fully into sovereign birth work and choosing freebirth with her fourth child. As a graduate of the Radical Birth Keeper School , she now carries this work forward in her own community. What happens when you choose a normal birth with twins? In this episode, I speak with Nicole, a mother from South Africa now living in the U.S., who chose sovereignty in one of the most medicalized and “high-risk” experiences imaginable: an identical twin pregnancy. From the very beginning, she was met with fear-based narratives—warnings of stillbirth, premature labor, and twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. But after enduring traumatic experiences in hospitals and with midwives, Nicole knew she would not birth her twins within the system. Instead, she underwent a profound process of deconditioning and committed to trusting her body. With the steady support of her husband, a Radical Birth Keeper graduate, and a community of women walking this same path, Nicole carried her twins to 40 weeks and welcomed them at home, in embodied sovereignty. Nicole shares the raw reality of holding responsibility for twins outside the system: the constant conversations about risk, the deep conviction it took to turn away completely, and the profound freedom of reclaiming birth on her own terms. Inside this episode: What Nicole witnessed in the hospital that made her vow never to return How she carried her twins to full term, trusting her body’s wisdom The support she found in a community of sovereign mothers What labor with twins looked like at home The double standard of blame when outcomes differ at home versus in the hospital The freedom and healing that come with birthing twins in sovereignty Timestamps: [00:00] Introduction [02:59] Two miscarriages and lack of support and answers from the medical system [07:05] Receiving news of a third unviable pregnancy and deciding not to take the pill [09:02] Discovering that the medical system was wrong about her third pregnancy, and that her baby was alive and healthy in her womb [11:19] Birthing her first son in a birthing center with a midwife, forced interventions, a fourth degree tear, and newborn separation [21:36] Postpartum hospital trauma, overreactions and threats [25:15] Another miscarriage and humiliating hospital treatment [32:13] Finding out she was pregnant with twins, midwife refusing to provide care, and choosing freebirth [1:00:00] Freebirthing her twins at home with her husband and birth attendant present If you want to connect more with Nicole, follow her on Instagram . What happens when you see behind the curtain of labor and delivery? In this episode, I speak with Rylee, a young mother who chose to freebirth her first child after working inside the hospital system. From the vantage point of the “business of birth,” Rylee began to question everything she thought she knew about pregnancy. That unraveling brought her face-to-face with the deep dissonance between what she was told was “right” and what her body knew was true. Carrying that knowing into her own pregnancy, she made the radical choice to step away from the system entirely. Rylee shares what it was like to work as a self-described “fearmongering phlebotomist,” to quit, and then to bring her baby earthside in her own power. Her story is one of unlearning, reclaiming, and discovering the strength that emerges when a woman finally trusts herself. What You’ll Hear: Why Rylee walked away from working in a hospital What it feels like to stand up to doctors and refuse routine procedures The hidden link between hospital “convenience” and high C-section rates Why even trusted OBs and familiar clinics can still feel wrong How she found her rhythm and delivered her baby in a birth pool at home The joy of her birth: laughing while pushing, with her mother and husband as witnesses Timestamps: [00:00] Introduction [09:03] Starting to question the hospital method and learning about freebirth [15:45] Climbing out of the system and trusting her instincts [19:57] Defying the doctors and reclaiming her sovereignty [28:15] Realizing that the hospital is a business [36:37] Choosing who she wanted at her freebirth [38:14] The psychedelic moment before labor began [45:40] Moving into the second day of labour, feeling tired, and calling her Mom [48:47] Exhausted, in a trance, and roaring through the portal of labor [51:32] Finding her rhythm and bringing her baby earth side in the pool [58:19] Getting out of the pool, the first cuddles, and delivering the placenta If you want to connect more with Rylee, follow her on Instagram . What happens when cancer treatment becomes the greatest catalyst for sovereignty? In this episode, I speak with Jocelyn, a Tennessee mother who walked away from conventional medicine after surviving thyroid cancer and having her thyroid removed at 25 years old. That experience changed everything. Jocelyn made a vow: never again would she hand her body over to the system. What happens when you walk away from everything and find your own path to motherhood? In this episode, we hear from Julia, a Montana mother of two who walked away from the corporate grind, sold her home, and set out on a radically different path to motherhood, one rooted in sovereignty, sisterhood, and self-trust. Julia shares how her first wild pregnancy unfolded while traveling the West Coast in a trailer, living off-grid in national forests, and finding community through The Lighthouse membership. With a deeply ingrained medical upbringing, Julia had to unravel layers of programming to reclaim birth on her terms. She tells the raw and beautiful stories of birthing her babies on raw land in the Montana winter, catching her first baby unexpectedly with bath towels and a shoelace, and welcoming her second in a fast, intuitive birth in the same off-grid trailer. From navigating boundaries with family to tandem nursing and raising her children outside the system, Julia’s story is a powerful testament to the courage it takes to live differently. What You’ll Hear: How a divorce became the catalyst for questioning everything she thought she knew Why she sold everything and set out on the road with their RV A story of freedom that comes from leaving behind medical management and social expectations Why her first freebirth became the most magical experience of her life How living in the Natural Forest system rewired her mind and reawakened her intuition The lessons from two very different freebirths Her advice for anyone considering stepping away from responsibilities during their first pregnancy Timestamps: [00:00] Introduction [00:51] From medical conditioning to embracing freebirth and body autonomy [10:31] Leaving corporate life behind to travel in an RV and begin a wild pregnancy on the road [30:23] First freebirth story in a winterized RV with unexpected postpartum challenges [45:57] Second freebirth story with a toddler sleeping nearby and a smooth postpartum experience [01:01:10] Postpartum recovery challenges, household dynamics, and lessons for next time You can connect with Julia on her homestead Instagram page here . What if the birth certificate was never for your baby—but a tool of control used by the state? In this episode, I sit down with Veda Ray, a freebirthing mother of two, who chose to walk a path most women never even consider: birthing and raising her second child completely outside the system. No pregnancy test. No monitoring. No birth certificate. No social security number. After her first birth at a birth center, Veda knew she wanted something different. This time, she listened deeply—to her body, to her baby, and to her own intuition—and what she heard was clear: this child was to be born free. We go deep into the realities of living outside the system, including how she navigated the legal terrain to secure a passport without government-issued ID, why she believes the birth certificate is a jurisdictional trap, and the spiritual responsibility of saying no to the state’s contracts. Inside this episode: What really happens when you don’t get a birth certificate or Social Security number for your child The process Veda used to get a passport without a state-issued ID Why a “family Bible” can hold legal weight in proving lineage and identity How the social security number binds your child into the U.S. corporate system The link between freebirth and reclaiming jurisdiction over your body and family What it’s like to raise a child who has never been registered by the state The unseen cost of outsourcing authority—and what you reclaim when you stop Timestamps: [00:00] Introduction [02:01] Choosing radical self-trust after rejecting the medical model [09:21] Learning to sit in the unknown and trust yourself through freebirth [22:54] Rethinking the birth certificate as a contract with the state and choosing a sovereign path instead [26:08] Creating private records to get a passport without a birth certificate [36:47] Using private trusts and EINs as alternatives to social security numbers and state contracts [52:44] Facing fear, claiming trust, and birthing in full sovereignty with family by your side Resources Mentioned: The Business of Being Born | Movie If you want to connect with Veda, you can find her website here , and follow her @veda.revival .
